Letters to the Editor for Dec. 23, 2009

Serious crime

To the editor:
Shae Niapas (letter, Dec. 3), I was deeply troubled to hear you describe your crisis. I have to ask you, did you not understand the seriousness of the crime you experienced?
Do you not know that the moment the person driving that car did not heed your danger-ahead warning and accelerated, that became a crime. It’s called assault with a deadly weapon, the car being the weapon.
This person is a psycho. I have never in my 62 years heard of anyone deliberately accelerating when they see an adult hailing them with no idea what is happening.
You mentioned your daughter. My God, I am thankful she was not hit.
There could have been a number of things happening, and danger was everywhere with this loon driving. He or she needs to be caught and prosecuted.
This person is out there right now. As an animal lover, I am so glad the dogs are going to be okay. Please report this. I even think it might be a district attorney matter.

Merry Christmas

To the editor:
As the feast of the birth of Jesus approaches, there is much joy in our hearts for all God allows in our lives. We give thanks for our nation being founded on our Christian beliefs. We know Jesus is the reason for this season. We will do all we know to do to keep Christ in Christmas.
Nearly 90 percent of Americans celebrate Christmas. Yet it is being stated we will not be hearing or seeing the word “Christmas.” It is now being called Holiday Season, Winter Holiday and Winter Season. The greeting “Merry Christmas” is replaced by “Happy Holidays.” Is our nation becoming the first totally secular nation on earth?
In 1870 our Congress declared Christmas Day a federal holiday — the only national holiday during December!
Our nation’s largest retailers have lists of “Holiday Fun Facts.” Store greeters will be saying “Happy Holidays” in place of “Merry Christmas.” Let us greet each other with “Merry Christmas” as often as we can and make purchases from merchants who are not afraid to use the word “Christmas.”
Mark Twain once said, “Tell the truth. It will amaze your friends and confound your enemies.”
For each of us the divine message of Bethlehem resounds: “Be not afraid; fort behold I bring you good news of great joy, to you is born this day in the city of David the savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

Will not resign

To the editor:
I have worked with Mike Malloy at his CPA firm for the past 10 years. In that time, I have needed to call the Sheriff — much less take out a restraining order — never.
What I cannot understand is when did the ability of people to reason, listen and solve problems turn into the circle of slander that is currently happening to Mike. Yes, editor, that includes you.
Mike will not resign from the School Board because so much is so wrong within the district. An extensive fraud has taken place at Tenaya Elementary involving stolen funds, and no one has been held accountable.
The District Attorney is investigating. Mike wants to fix the problems, not compound them by ignoring that they exist. There is nothing to fear except perhaps the truth.

Light a candle

To the editor:
I just read Kathy Francis’ letter (Dec 8), and it touched me. I had to write in and say thank you for remembering the children. It means a lot to me.
My husband and I are fostering a little boy and in May, we will be able to adopt him. He had a little sister and she was not so lucky — she was found dead in her crib. Both were neglected by their mother.
Children are our future, and some times we forget to tell them that we love them. Lighting a candle will show that we love all of them, dead and alive. I hope this letter touches someone else.
