Jason Cowan (Calaveras County Reporter)

Jason Cowan was born in San Diego, California, and went to college at Colorado State University-Pueblo. It was there he majored in mass communications with a journalism emphasis. He worked for the school paper, the CSU-Pueblo Today, for two years, serving as editor-in-chief for one and a half years. While he was in college, he interned with what is now called the San Diego Union Tribune as a member of the sports department. He is the recipient of the 2013 Denver Press Club Damon Runyon Scholarship and was the graduating senior of the year from the mass communications department in 2014. After leaving university, Jason returned to San Diego where he worked in public relations for nine months prior to joining The Union Democrat in June of 2015. Jason covers Calaveras County and occasionally sports for The Democrat.
