Jess Sullivan Sr.

Jan. 23, 1920 — Sept. 24, 2003

Longtime Jamestown resident Jess Sullivan Sr. died Wednesday at his home. He was 83.

He was born in Camp Verde, Ariz., and had lived in Jamestown for 38 years. He worked as a body-and-fender man for 50 years.

His family said he loved hunting, fishing, reading, yard sales and playing games, especially cards and dominoes.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Frances Sullivan of Jamestown; sons and daughters-in-law Bill and Anne Sullivan of Louisville, Ky., Martin and Charlotte Sullivan of Jamestown, and Bill and Peggy Sullivan of Pioneer; daughters and sons-in-law Cathy and J.C. Duncan and Ann Sullivan, all of Sonora, and Janie and Don Thornton of Stockton; a brother, Quitman Sullivan of Madeline; a sister, LaVerne Dietrich of Gardnerville, Nev.; 26 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Bobby and Warren, and a granddaughter, April Milbrandt.

A memorial service was held Saturday.

Walter Wirtz

Dec. 3, 1918 — Sept. 22, 2003

Walter Wirtz, formerly of Sonora, died last Monday at a Minnesota hospital. He was 84.

His family said he loved cooking, travel and photography, and always remained young at heart.

Mr. Wirtz is survived by his children and their spouses, Phyllis and Bob Witwicki, Timothy and Marie Wirtz, Heidi Hexum, and Michael and Maria Wirtz; grandchildren, Matthew and Brittany Wirtz and Joshua and Nathan Hexum; and former wife, Ruth Wirtz.

A memorial and visitation is scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Funeral Chapel in Hopkins, Minn. A short prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral chapel. A private burial is scheduled for Wednesday at Groveland Cemetery in Minnetonka, Minn.

Evan Walker


May 5, 1984 — Sept. 13, 2003

Evan Walker Pilson, formerly of Sonora, died Sept. 13 in a motorcycle accident in Gold Canyon, Ariz. He was 19.

He lived in Sonora for 16 years. He attended Soulsbyville Elementary and Summerville High School. His family relocated to Gold Canyon, Ariz., in 2001. He graduated from Apache Junction High School this year.

Mr. Pilson is survived by his parents, Mike and Kim Pilson of Gold Canyon; a sister, Jessica Pilson of Gold Canyon; a brother, Eric Pilson of Gold Canyon; grandparents Jeanne Morgan of Rocklin, A.W. Maurer Jr. of Carson City, Nev., and Pat and Hank Woodrum of Mesa, Ariz.; uncles and aunt Greg Maurer of Las Vegas, Chris Maurer of Rancho Murieta, and Shannon and Rebecca Morgan of Placerville; and cousins Alex and Jennifer Maurer of Indiana, Matthew and Michelle Maurer of Santa Cruz, and Hannah and Abigail Morgan of Placerville.

A memorial service was held in Arizona.

Erin Patricia Kelly

Jan. 18, 1958 — Sept. 17, 2003

Erin Patricia Kelly of Sonora died Sept. 17 at her home after a long illness. She was 45.

She was born in Walnut Creek, and had lived in Sonora for three years. She worked in real estate in Fremont for 10 years. She was a member of the Mountain Zion Parish.

Her family said she loved her kids and was a great artist and writer.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Toth of Columbia; sons Victor Toth of Los Angeles, and Ryan and Rex Toth, both of Columbia; her parents, John Kelly of Fremont and Patricia Kelly of Dublin; a brother, John Kelly of Walnut Creek; sisters Karen Kelly of Spokane, Wash., and Lynn Kelly of Alamo; and 27 nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday.

MANLY — June Manly, 84, of Coulterville died yesterday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MARTIN — Rose M. Martin, 78, of Sonora died this morning at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

MAVES — Daniel Maves, 54, residence unavailable, died Saturday in Columbia. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

WRIGHT — Gerald Wright, 95, of Soulsbyville died yesterday at a Riverbank care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
