Barbara Jean (Van Slyke) Martin

Angels Camp resident Barbara Jean (Van Slyke) Martin died Aug. 16 at her home.
She was 80.
Mrs. Martin was born in Whittier to Harold and Mary Van Slyke.
She moved to Oakland in the 1950s, where met Jerry Martin on a blind date on Aug. 25, 1953. They married Dec. 15, 1955, and settled in Angels Camp in 1963.
Mrs. Martin was a wife and mother.
She was a member of Union Congregational Church in Angels Camp for more than 45 years.
She enjoyed the ocean and traveling and often took trips to Capitola and San Francisco, throughout the United States and abroad.
She especially enjoyed the seven trips to Disneyland she took with her granddaughters. They also went on several other trips and a cruise. She spent almost every Friday with them for nearly 17 years.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Martin, of Angels Camp; her sons, Scott Martin and his wife, Jeanne, of Diamond Springs, and Terry Martin, of Elk Grove; her granddaughters, Kristen and Laura Martin, of Diamond Springs; her stepson, Dana DeMoulin and his wife, Gloria, of Woodbridge, and their children, Alyssa and Chez.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Make a Wish” foundation or hospice organizations.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Friendship Hall at Union Congregational Church in Angels Camp.
Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Former Sonora resident Diane David-Healy died July 31 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. She was 61.
Ms. David-Healy was born in Norfolk, Va., to Max Ray David and Mary Louise (Short) David.
The family moved to California shortly after she was born. She graduated from Mills College in Oakland in 1973.
She worked as a special-education teacher for more than 25 years.
Ms. David-Healy enjoyed learning.
She developed an art career after taking a painting class at Columbia College. Her first art show as a professional was in Sonora.
She lived in Sonora from 1994 to 2004 before settling in Alburgh, Vt.
Ms. David-Healy is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael and Michelle Healy, of San Francisco, Daniel Healy, of Suisun City; her daughter-in-law, Paige Healy, of Merced; her grandchildren, Shelby and Wyatt Healy, of Suisun City, and Jeannette Healy, of San Francisco; and her companion, Ted Boyd.
A celebration of life was held Saturday in Sonora.
