Morseman Junior ‘Jay’ Blodgett

Sonora resident Morseman Junior “Jay” Blodgett died Aug. 26 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
Mr. Blodgett was born in Watertown, N.Y., to Stella and Earl Blodgett.
He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Blodgett worked for 30 years as a communication technician for AT&T in Angels Camp.
He lived in Sonora for most of the past 42 years, except when he and his wife spent seven years traveling the United States.
Mr. Blodgett was a member of the Country Cowboy Church in Sonora, Jamestown Christian Fellowship, National Rifle Association and Mother Lode Gun Club. He was among the founders of Scepter Masonic Lodge in West Sacramento, according to family members.
He enjoyed shooting guns, outdoor sports and raising horses.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lumearl Blodgett, of Sonora; son, Steve Blodgett, of Sacramento; daughter, Debra Blodgett, of Sonora; brothers, Raymond Blodgett, of Fallon, Nev., and Joseph Blodgett, of Logan, Utah; sister, Bonnie Walsh, of Arizona; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Country Cowboy Church, 14888 Peaceful Valley Road, Sonora.

Vivian Ellen (Gregersen) Henry
Sept. 18, 1921 — Aug. 21, 2013
Sonora resident Vivian Ellen Henry died Aug. 21 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 91.
Mrs. Henry was born Vivian Ellen Gregersen on a farm near Valentine, Neb., to Sophia (White) and Siegfried Gregersen.
She worked as a bookkeeper for various pharmacies in the Bay Area and San Jose area for 30 years.
She moved to Sonora in 2001 to be with family.
Mrs. Henry enjoyed exercise classes with her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles Henry; a son, Greg Henry; her first husband, Luke Yancey; and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Yancey, of Sonora; son, Jay Yancey, of Sonora; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held.

James John Mazzaferro
July 12, 1924 — Aug. 24, 2013
Sonora resident James John Mazzaferro died Aug. 24 at his home. He was 89.
Mr. Mazzaferro was born in Dover, Ohio, to Joe and Sanda Mazzaferro. He was raised in East Rochester.
He graduated from Minerva High School in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the D-Day, hitting Omaha Beach at Normandy. He also witnessed the signing of the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri.
Mr. Mazzaferro moved to San Francisco after his military service. He worked for the San Francisco Ice Company before go to work at F.J. Burns Drayage, where he met his future wife, Marilyn Langhorst.
He was a longtime member of Teamsters Union Local 85.
He moved to Sonora upon his retirement 23 years ago.
Mr. Mazzaferro was inducted into the Minerva High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
He enjoyed swimming, walking and playing with his grandchildren.
Mr. Mazzaferro is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Mazzaferro, of Sonora; his sons and their spouses, James and Anita Mazzaferro, of Elk Grove; Anthony and Christy Mazzaferro, of Irvine, and Mark and Lori Mazzaferro, of Vacaville; his grandchildren and their spouses, Cherylyn and Josh Glass, of Elk Grove, Joseph and Liz Mazzaferro, of Elk Grove, Jeanette Mazzaferro, of Hanford, Nicole and Sean Kenney, of Vacaville, Vincent Mazzaferro, of San Francisco, Jason Mazzaferro, of Southern California, Anne Mazzaferro, of Fairfield, and Amy Mazzaferro, of Southern California; and three great-grandchildren.
Services have been held.

CLIFTON — Lydia Clifton, 91, of Sonora died Saturday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
GUZMAN — Flora L. Guzman, 51, of Tuolumne County, died Aug. 27 in Palo Alto. A visitation is planned from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 127 W. Jackson St., Sonora. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, also at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
ROSE — Melba Rose, 86, of Sonora, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
TEEM — Jeff Teem, 45, of Sonora, died Wednesday at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sierra Bible Church, 15171 Tuolumne Road, Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
