David Critchfield

Oct. 4, 1950 — Sept. 3, 2013

Sonora resident David Critchfield died Sept. 3 at his home. He was 62.

Mr. Critchfield was born in Richmond to Jane and Orange Calvin Critchfield. 

He settled in Sonora 29 years ago and co-owned the Roll-In Mobile Home Park in Columbia with his brother, Harry Critchfield, until 2004. Their father had built the park when they were in high school. 

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and enjoyed square dancing, bowling and traveling.

Mr. Critchfield was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jerri Critchfield, of Sonora; his stepchildren and their spouses, Cal and Michelle Street, of Tracy, and Wendi and Jimmy Timm, of Eureka; brother, Harry Critchfield, of Sonora; and 10 stepgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Soulsbyville United Methodist Church, 19882 Community Drive, Soulsbyville.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

Aurora Jeannie (Chavez) Mahan

Oct. 16, 1934 — Sept. 12, 2013 

Jamestown resident Aurora Jeannie (Chavez) Mahan died Sept. 12 in Modesto. She was 78.

Mrs. Mahan lived in Jamestown for 12 years. She was a homemaker.

She was married to Robert Mahan for 10 years. They enjoyed watching baseball together and traveling. 

Mrs. Mahan enjoyed tending to flowers in her garden and going to garage sales.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Toni Berry.

Mrs. Mahan is survived by her husband, Robert Mahan, of Jamestown; children, Lalonnie Nelson, of Mi-Wuk Village, Robin Ross, of Jamestown, and Terri Ensey, of Jamestown; grandchildren, Todd Berry, of Redondo Beach, Don Bowden, of Jamestown, Johnie Dumas, of Jamestown, Brian Dumas, of Jamestown, Tanya Brokeacheck, of Modesto, Sandy Carter, of Modesto, Lori Walling, of Mi-Wuk Village, and John Nelson, of Sonora; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by a service at 2 p.m. at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Zackary J. Spingola Jr.

Nov. 3, 1949 — Sept. 4, 2013

Sonora resident Zackary J. Spingola Jr. died Sept. 4 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 63.

Mr. Spingola was born and raised in Santa Clara County and worked as a flooring installer. 

He lived in Sonora for 13 years.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, boxing and fishing. He also enjoyed football and baseball. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joyce Spingola; and his brothers, Michael and Mark Spingola.

Mr. Spingola is survived by his wife of 20 years, Christine K. Spingola, of Sonora; children, Rachel Spingola, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Steve Hodges, of San Jose; stepdaughter, Heather Gilpatrick, of San Jose, his brother, Matthew Spingola, of Sonora; and grandchildren, Conner Reinschmidt, of San Jose, and Caitlyn, Brittany and Brayden Hodges, all of San Jose.

A celebration of life potluck will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Alano Club, 19421 Village Drive, East Sonora. 

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 


RUTHERFORD — Robert E. Rutherford, 85, of Strawberry, died Sept. 9 in an car accident in Modesto. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 24176 Pine Lake Drive, Sugar Pine. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the church, P.O. Box 280, Mi-Wuk Village, CA 95346.
