Ernest T. Juri

Aug. 14, 1939 — Aug. 17, 2013

Mokelumne Hill native Ernest T. Juri died Aug. 17 at his home in Clear Lake. He was 74.

Mr. Juri was born in Mokelumne Hill to Ernest and Mary Juri. 

He graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1957. He attended Sacramento Junior College and majored in aeronautics before joining the U.S. Army in 1963. He served in Korea.

He returned to Mokelumne Hill in 1965 and began working at the Calaveras Cement Plant. He worked there for many years until the plant closed.

Mr. Juri lived in Stockton for a number of years before settling in Clear Lake. 

Mr. Juri is survived by his son, Michael Van Horn, of Lodi, his sisters, Matilda Anne Juri, of Fresno, Delores Arenander, Muriel McBurney, and Robin Berglund, all of the Bay Area; brother, Bill Arenander, of the Bay Area; cousin, Mary DeAguiar, of Sonora; and longtime companion, Carol Hughes, and her daughter, Lisa Hughes, both of Clear Lake.

A funeral service was planned for 10 a.m. today at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.

Frank E. Scott

Sept. 23, 1935 — Aug. 24, 2013

Longtime Sonora resident Frank E. “Coach” Scott died Aug. 24 at a Stockton rehabilitation facility. He was 77. 

Mr. Scott was born in Bakersfield and lived in Sonora for 44 years. He was a teacher and coached sports in Tuolumne County for 23 years. He coached football, wrestling, track, boys and girls gymnastics, soccer and boys P.E. fitness team. 

Mr. Scott organized the Robert Hatler Memorial Wrestling Tournament that continued for 20 years. He also started the Tuolumne County Recreation Department and ran it for three years. 

Mr. Scott coordinated and ran the county elementary schools sports league programs including boys soccer, wrestling and basketball and girls volleyball, basketball and baseball. He started the Sonora High physical fitness team, the Foothill Phantoms Freestyle Wrestling Club, and the Mother Lode Wrestling Club. 

The county elementary school wrestling tournament was renamed the Frank Scott Tournament. 

He also enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing. 

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Scott, in 1969; his sister, June Larkin, in 1974; his sister, Jane Elliott Dixon, in 2012; his mother, Mamie Elliott, in 1989; and his father, Luther Elliott, in 1997.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Scott, of Sonora; children and their spouses, Frank Jr. and Wendy Scott, Nikki and Michael Rodgers, Frederick and Melody Scott; grandchildren, Martin Scott, Dustin Scott, Melissa Rodgers, Kelsie Scott, Tyler Rodgers, Michaela Rodgers, Alica Scott, Justin Scott and Ethan Scott; and two great-grandchildren. 

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sonora High School gym.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.

DULIN — Dale Dulin, 65, of Jamestown, died Sunday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

ECKMAN — Barbara Jean Eckman, 82, of Groveland, died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

FADDEN — Judith Fadden, 67, of Jamestown, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

HUNTER — Thomas Hunter, 79, of Jamestown, died Sunday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

NEUNEKER — Keith E. Neuneker, 93, of Sonora, died Aug. 31 at Skyline Place. A burial was held at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette. Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370, or to the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation (AA&MDSIF), 100 Park Ave, Suite 108, Rockville, MD 20850. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

RITTENHOUSE — Former Sonora resident George W. Rittenhouse, 80, of Modesto, died Aug. 27 at Valley Comfort Assisted Living in Modesto. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 25 at Sierra Bible Church, 15171 Tuolumne Road, Sonora. Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. 

REDSHAW — Betty Redshaw, 89, of Sonora, died Friday at Avalon Care Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

RIVERA — Former Sonora resident Vincent Michael Rivera, 47, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Aug. 29 in Phoenix. A memorial service will he held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel in the Pines, 18580 Cherokee Drive,  Twain Harte. A service will also be held Sept. 26 at Victory Outreach Church in Phoenix. Abel Funeral Services in Phoenix is handling arrangements. 

SMITH — Bruce Smith, 56, of Jamestown, died Monday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
