Jeanne Elizabeth Wilson

Sonora resident Jeanne Elizabeth Wilson died on Sept. 24 at her home. She was 87.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Lamesa, Texas, to Gale and Gaytha Johnson. Her family moved to Santa Paula in Ventura County when she was a young girl and she lived there most of her life.
She married George E. Wilson in 1944, and they raised their three daughters on the family ranch in Santa Paula surrounded by family and friends.
They moved to Sonora in 1987 to be near their late daughter, Judith Weldon, and her family.
She enjoyed design and often offered her husband input on architectural design and colors.
She enjoyed decorating and working in her gardens. She also enjoyed entertaining, flower arranging and was a supporter of the artistic community.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson; and her daughter, Judith Weldon.
She is survived by her children, Lindsey Ritscher, of Marietta, Ohio, Lisa Wilson, and her husband, Rob Meyer, of Farmington, N.M., and her son-in-law, Steve Weldon, of Sonora; her grandchildren, Allison Ritscher, Nathaniel Ritscher, Meredith Dixon, Alex and Zoe Wilson-Meyer, and Jonathan and Todd Weldon; her sisters, Ruth Young and Janice Ardizzone; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the family home to be followed by a reception dinner.

Dennis Charles Hanson

West Point resident Dennis Charles Hanson died Sept. 8 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas after a long fight with colon cancer. He was 63.
Mr. Hanson was born in Santa Maria to Charles James Hanson and Lorice (Clark) Halseth.
He attended San Bernardino Valley College where he met Valerie Reichardt.
They later attended San Jose State University together and married on Dec. 31, 1972.
Mr. Hanson graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree.
He worked as the store manager at Books Inc. in San Jose for 14 years before moving to West Point in 1986.
He began his career with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in August of 1987 as a seasonal firefighter and worked his way to Captain in 2001. He also instructed CPR, first aid, first responder and EMT classes.
He enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, cabinet making and fishing.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Valerie Reichardt Hanson, of West Point; daughter, Mary Hanson, of West Point; his grandson, Gage Hanson, of West Point; his mother, Lorice Halseth, of Railroad Flat; his brother, Gary Hanson, of Pennsylvania; and brothers-in-law, Dennis and John Reichardt.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at the West Point Community Church, 22264 Highway 26. A reception will follow at the West Point Community Hall.
