James Boldt

Sept. 19, 1928 — Oct. 15, 2012

Angels Camp resident James Boldt died Oct. 15 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. He was 84.

Mr. Boldt was born in Bayshore, N.Y., but moved to Southern California at age 9 to live with his grandmother. He often traveled between the two states.

He settled in Huntington Beach and worked in sales for more than 40 years before retiring to Calaveras County 22 years ago. He lived in Arnold for 15 years and moved to Angels Camp seven years ago.

Mr. Boldt was a member of Big Trees Community Bible Church for 22 years. He served as an usher and event coordinator, was a member of the Praise Team and played harmonica and guitar during services.

He was involved with the Ebbetts Pass Elves and made wooden toys for children during the holidays. He also was a docent at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. 

Mr. Boldt is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean Boldt, of Angels Camp; his children, Jay Boldt, of Huntington Beach, Leigh Keene, of Huntington Beach, Mark Spolidoro, of Elk Grove, Kerry Marksbury, of San Diego, Lynne Samaan, of West Sacramento, Paul Spolidoro, of Natomas, and Leigh Perales, of Laguna Hills; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Big Trees Community Church in Arnold.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

Alice O’Connor

Dec. 13, 1924 — Sept. 4, 2012

Former Twain Harte resident Alice O’Connor died Sept. 4 at Mission Villa Memory Center in Campbell. She was 87.

She was raised on a ranch in Nathrop, Colo.

She was named “Queen of the Rodeo” in Buena Vista, Colo., in 1943.

She married Maurice Notch in 1946 and eventually settled in Oakland where they raised five children.

Mrs. O’Connor moved to Twain Harte in 1988 and lived there until 2010, when she moved to Campbell. 

She was a past president of the Women’s Propeller Club of the Bay Area and an active member of the Twain Harte Golf Club. 

She enjoyed traveling and playing golf. She also was a talented story teller, said her family.

Mrs. O’Connor was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Maury Notch; her brothers, Gene and Jim O’Connor; and her longtime companion and caregiver, Steve Morrow.

She is survived by her children, Jan Berthold and her husband, Tom, of Saratoga, John Notch, of Oakland, Gerald Notch and his wife, Pamela, of Central Point, Ore., Kathleen Notch, of Soquel, and Maureen Smith and her husband, Chris, of Bear River, Wyo.; one sister, three brothers; and nine grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at the Seascape Resort in Aptos in November.

Brygan Funeral Home in Los Gatos is handling arrangements. 


MOORE — A memorial service will be held for Ruble L. “Rube” Moore, former Sonora resident and proprietor of Rube’s Restaurant, at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Modesto Church of God, 1918 Sherwood Ave., Modesto.
