Roy Owen Sergent

Longtime Sonora resident Roy Owen Sergent died Oct. 17 at his home. He was 76.
Mr. Sergent was born in San Pedro to Owen and Mary Sergent. He graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, where he met his future wife, Nancy Wells.
Mr. Sergent became a sheet metal journeyman at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, then joined the Long Beach Police Department.
He later worked in the California Highway Patrol and was stationed in South Los Angeles.
He transferred to the East Los Angeles station to be a motorcycle officer and transferred to the Jamestown CHP office in 1969.
After his retirement, he became a real estate broker in Sonora and then later worked as a bailiff in the Tuolumne County Superior Court.
Mr. Sergent enjoyed traveling, golfing and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Sergent, of Sonora; his daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Donald Luna, of Stockton; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Robin Sergent of Sonora; grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Erica Peters, of San Francisco, Danielle and her husband Jamie Kuperman, of Austin, Texas, Corey and his wife, Casey Peters, of Mariposa, Krysta, Jordan, Jason and Kayla Sergent, of Sonora, and James Klyn, of Sonora; and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370, or to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

HERNANDEZ — Ernesto Hernandez, 81, of Soulsbyville, died Tuesday at his daughter’s home in Oakdale. Viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Eproson Park in Twain Harte. If it rains, it will be held at Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
