Harold

Lee Francis

April 24, 1943 – Oct. 10, 2004

Harold Lee Francis, brother of Virginia Ann Page of Sonora, died Sunday at his sister's home while on vacation. He was 61.

He was born in Oakland and lived in Lakewood, Wash., for 21 years. He retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant after having served for 20 years, including two tours in Vietnam.

His family said he enjoyed stamp collecting and painting pictures.

Mr. Francis is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Francis of Lakewood; a daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Don Hudak of Iowa; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Ann and Robert Page and Deloyce Green, all of Sonora; and grandchildren, Richard A. Bauer of Lakewood, Tanya E. Bauer-Platt and her husband, Eric, of Renton, Wash., and Bryan P. Bauer of Lakewood and his fiance, Renesse, and her daughter, Tobi.

No services are scheduled. Cremation is planned.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Raymond

A. Jeremy Jr.

Aug. 7, 1978 – Oct. 5, 2004

Raymond A. Jeremy Jr. of Sonora died Oct. 5 from injuries suffered in an auto accident in San Joaquin County. He was 26.

He was born in Modesto and lived in Waterford, Stanislaus County, for 26 years before moving to Sonora nine months ago. He worked as a pipe layer for K.M. Jackson for six years. He was a member of E. Clampus Vitus Chapters 58 and 1849 and belonged to a labor union.

He was a youth sports coach in Waterford for many years and played in an Oakdale High School state championship football game.

Mr. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Erika Lei Jeremy of Sonora; children, Austin Jeremy, Mark Jeremy and Kierstan Rhodes-Jeremy, all of Sonora; a sister, Jennifer Jeremy of Waterford; his parents, Raymond and Trisa Jeremy of Waterford; grandmothers, Opal Wheeler of Georgia and Bonnie Diaz of Waterford; and cousins, Jerry and Andy Diaz, both of Waterford.

Services were held.

Oakdale Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

Patricia

Anne Miller

June 12, 1949 – Oct. 7, 2004

Patricia Anne Miller of Big Oak Flat died Thursday at her home of natural causes. She was 55.

She was born in San Jose and lived in the Bay Area, primarily in Oakland. She attended Oakland schools and graduated from Oakland High School in 1967. After she married her husband, Thomas, in 1968, they moved to Michigan, where he was stationed in the U.S. Coast Guard.

They moved to Sonora in 1976 and lived there for three years before they moved to South Carolina. She graduated with an associate's degree in accounting from Trident Technical College in North Charleston, S.C.

They returned to Sonora in 1985 and lived there until moving to Big Oak Flat in 1993. She worked as a medical biller for Blue Shield, Sonora Community Hospital and Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Her hobbies included gardening and collecting ceramic ducks. She loved to travel and camp outdoors, especially along the California coastline, her family added, and she loved to read and was especially interested in Gold Rush history.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Thomas Miller; daughters and son-in-law, Ariana Miller of Las Vegas and Wendy and John Moresi of Sacramento; a grandson, Colby Moresi and another grandson due on Dec. 9; a brother, Bob Bakewell of Oakdale; nephews, Chris Bakewell of Oakdale, Morgan Miller of New York and Barry Howard of Truckee, Nevada County; a cousin, Floyd Barker of Alameda; mother and father-in-law, Marjorie and Dale Miller of Oakland; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynn and Greg Howard of Oregon and Jan and Ramona Miller of Santa Cruz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurine and Clifton Bakewell; and an aunt, Rossie Barker.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Private burial is scheduled at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto, CA 95350.

Inga

Marie Penniman

Feb. 25, 1921 – Oct. 11, 2004

Inga Marie Penniman of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. She was 83.

She was born in Clarkdale, Ariz., to Christian J. and Ida (Svarvar) Carlsen.

She worked as a legal secretary for private law firms in Santa Clara County and for the Santa Clara County Counsel's Office. She retired as an investigator for the Santa Clara County Public Administrator's Office.

She moved to Tuolumne County with her husband, Jerry Penniman, in the 1980s from Morgan Hill and lived at Mill Villa in Jamestown. They later moved to Sonora. Her husband died in 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Rolene Kiesling of Groveland; grandchildren, Norene Toland of San Jose, Christopher Bailey of Galt and Christian Eichman of Virginia Beach, Va.; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Johansen of Yuba City, Lois Mast of Lakewood, Colo., and Patricia Carlsen of Jamestown; five nieces and nephews; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roland Eichman, Louis Nobriga and Jerome "Jerry" Penniman; and a son, Verle Christian Eichman, in 1998.

No services are scheduled. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Big Oak Flat.

Florence ‘Flossie' H. Deveggio

July 8, 1910 – Oct. 10, 2004

Lifelong Calaveras County resident Florence "Flossie" H. Deveggio died Sunday at a San Andreas hospital. She was 94.

She was born in San Leandro and lived in Calaveras County her entire life, most recently in Angels Camp. She was a retired social worker for Calaveras County. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Angels Camp.

She is survived by her cousins, Jerry Biedinger and his wife, Kathy, of Altaville, Randy Biedinger and his wife, Lisa, of Murphys and Barbara Morhmann and her husband, Bill, of San Andreas; and a niece, Jacqueline Church of Walnut Creek.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 1984; and by a sister, Irene Douglas, in 1967.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice of the Sierra, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.
