Jake Chatfield

Oct. 3, 1972 — Oct. 25, 2013

San Andreas resident Jake Chatfield died Friday at his home. He was 41.

Mr. Chatfield was born in Jackson, the son of Paula and Charlie Chatfield. 

He attended Calaveras High School. 

He worked as a cranberry farmer in Oregon and later for Pat Murphy Plumbing in San Andreas. 

He enjoyed skateboarding, gardening, snowboarding and the music of Bob Marley. 

Mr. Chatfield is survived by his daughter, Ashlee Ann Chatfield, of Sonora; mother, Paula Bagshaw, of San Andreas; father, Charlie Chatfield, of Mokelumne Hill; sister, Jessica Chatfield of San Andreas; one nephew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Mokelumne Hill Park in Mokelumne Hill.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

Bertha Ilo ‘Berdie’ (Vert) Lane

Feb. 5, 1922 — Oct. 25, 2013

Soulsbyville resident Bertha Ilo “Berdie” (Vert) Lane died Friday at her home. She was 91.

Mrs. Lane was born in Winches, Idaho, the daughter of Florence Ella and Mark Vert.

She settled in Soulsbyville 68 years ago and attended several churches in the area and sang at church functions with her husband. 

Mrs. Lane was a founding member of Mother Lode Christian School. 

She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. She also enjoyed gardening and reading Christian romance novels.

Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Lane; her children, John Diana and Thom Lane; and nephews, Wesley and David Carlton.

She is survived by her children, Ed Lane, Penny and Norman Carlton, Becky and Keith Hillier, all of Soulsbyville, and Bill Lane, of Jamestown; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Pearl Hubley, of Copperopolis.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Patricia R. ‘Pat’  (Peasley) Stevenson 

March 17, 1940 – October 15, 2013

Groveland resident Patricia R. “Pat” (Peasley) Stevenson died Oct. 15 at her home after a long illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Stevenson was born in Aniwa, Wis., the daughter of Natalie and Adrian Peasley. 

She graduated from Del Norte High School in Colorado. 

She married Peter Stevenson in 1958. They lived in San Jose for a number of years. 

Mrs. Stevenson raised six children in addition to working as respiratory therapist and registered nurse. 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in management and established the respiratory therapy program at Concorde Career Institute in San Jose.

Mrs. Stevenson was Catholic. She and her husband participated in church activities and were involved with the Christian Family Movement in San Jose for many years. 

Mrs. Stevenson was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Peter Stevenson, of Groveland; her sisters, Linda Kelley, of Sonora, and Sandra Gattozzi, of Brentwood; sons, Gregory Stevenson, of Tucson, Ariz., Mark Stevenson, of Morgan Hill, Charles Stevenson, of San Jose, and Joshua Stevenson, of Big Hill, daughters, Sophia Stevenson, of San Jose, and Natasha Plyer, of Mountain Green, Utah; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Nov. 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mission Church, 11700 Catholic Cemetery Road, Big Oak Flat.

ESCHBACH — Robert Eschbach, 62, of Columbia, died Wednesday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

McGREAL — Former Jamestown resident Donald McGreal, 39, died Saturday in Turlock. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Heights Assembly of God, 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

WALLEN — Sibby Wallen, 94, of Tuolumne, died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
