Dr. Hubert
Vincent Parker
Dec. 22, 1921 — Sept. 27, 2011

    Former Sonora resident Dr. Hubert Vincent Parker died Sept. 27 at a hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. He was 89.
    Born in Modesto to Maurice and Florence Parker, he went on to become an arc welder and work in a Long Beach shipyard building ships for the U.S. Navy in 1941.
    The weekend after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he married LaBerta Smith in Carson City, Nev. He was 19 and she was 17.
    He earned his dental degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco, and in 1948 he moved to Sonora where he practiced dentistry for 50 years and he and his wife raised their four children.
    From 1954 to 1956 he served as a dentist on the U.S.S. Point Cruise.
    He was an elder in the Sierra Bible Church and taught adult Sunday school. He also served on the Sonora High School Board of Trustees for 25 years.
    After his retirement in 1998, he and his wife moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worshipped at the Anchorage Grace Church and Mountain View Baptist Church.
    He enjoyed teaching others about his faith.
    Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, LaBerta Parker, of Anchorage; children and their spouses, David and Margie Parker, of Anchorage, Jonathan and Laura Parker, of Laguna Beach, and Cheri Robinson, of Sonora; grandchildren, Vanessa Meyer, of Laguna Beach, Aaron Parker, of Seattle, Benjamin Parker, of Wasilla, Alaska, Maxwell Parker, of Laguna Beach, and Alexander Robinson, of Okinawa, Japan; and eight great-grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his daughter, Kathy Burns; and brother Harlan Parker.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cowboy Country Church in Sonora.
    Donations can be made to the Gideon Society, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
    The Cremation Society of Alaska is handling arrangements.


    CASILLAS — Tudie Casillas, 87, of Jamestown, died Oct. 22 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel, which is handling arrangements. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.
    COX — Roma Charlotte Cox, 93, of Sonora, died Oct. 22 at Avalon Care Center. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
    McWHINNEY — Dale Scott McWhinney, 64, of Sonora, died Monday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
