William ‘Al’ Durston

Soulsbyville resident William “Al” Durston died Oct. 16 at his home. He was 93.
Mr. Durston was born in Wales, United Kingdom. He worked as a manufacturing engineer for 32 years for Westinghouse.
He served in the Army Air Corps and lived in Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz County, for 30 years.
Mr. Durston enjoyed woodworking and lived in Soulsbyville for six years.
He was a member of the Sonora Lions Club.
Mr. Durston is survived by his wife, Margie Durston, of Soulsbyville; sons Tom Durston, of Soulsbyville, and Bill Durston, of Sacramento; and three grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Mountain Springs Golf Course in Sonora.
Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Former Angels Camp resident Jack Arthur Whitman died Oct. 18 at a Modesto hospital. He was 78.
Mr. Whitman was born in Hoopeston, Ill., and worked as an aeronautical engineer in the aerospace industry for 30 years.
He lived for 12 years in Angels Camp, where he was owner of the Grubstake Storage. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Whitman had most recently lived in Manteca for one year.
Mr. Whitman is survived by his wife, Ludene Whitman, of Manteca; sons Robert, Thomas and Richard Whitman, all of California; daughters Debra Pavone and Linda White of California, and Janet Santos, of Utah; his sister, Penny Czaja, of Texas; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Donations in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Suite 100, Burlingame, CA 94010.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Angels Memorial Chapel.
