Dennis ‘Denny’
Gilbert Waterman
April 23, 1931 — Oct. 7, 2011

    Twain Harte resident Dennis “Denny” Gilbert Waterman died Oct. 7 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. He was 80.
    Born in Vancouver, Canada, to Vernon and Doris Waterman, he lived  for many years in San Mateo, where he met Thelma Hammonds and her daughter, Debra. The couple married in 1952.
    He worked as a glazier and glassworker for Mission Glass Co. in San Mateo for many years along side his brother, Cliff.
    He and his wife moved to Sierra Village in the early 1980s, and they later moved to Twain Harte in the early 1990s.
    He enjoyed golfing, ice hockey, fishing and working on his home.
    Mr. Waterman is survived by his daughter, Debra Russell, of Sonora; and granddaughter, Amanda Green, of Twain Harte.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Waterman, and his brother, Cliff Waterman.
    A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora, to be followed at 2 p.m. by a reception at the Lazy Z Resort in Twain Harte.
    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Francene ‘Fran’
Sept. 12, 1955 — Oct. 17, 2011

    Sonora resident Francene “Fran” Knight-Burton died Monday at her daughter’s home in Jamestown. She was 56.
    Born in Missouri to Susan Jane and Ernest Chester Knight, she was a housewife and lived in Sonora for almost 14 years.
    She enjoyed walking.
    Mr. Knight-Burton is survived by her children, Gary Partin and Amy Burton, both of Jamestown, Shauna Partin-McAlester, of Oregon, and Danny Lee Burton, of Sonora; grandson, David Anthony Burton, of Jamestown; father, Ernest Chester Knight, of Missouri; and siblings Darlene Smink, and Bobby Knight, both of Modesto, and Donna Walling, Michelle Knight-Collins, and Don, Mike and Ernie Knight, all of Missouri.
    In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Burton; and brothers, Daryl and Danny Knight.
    A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dambacher Mountain Memorial Cemetery.
    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Hazel Wildes
Nov. 24, 1919 — Oct. 19, 2011

    Sonora resident Hazel Wildes died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 91.
    Born in Coos Bay, Ore., she and her husband owned a boat harbor in Pittsburg, Calif., for 40 years.
    She lived in Sonora for 31 years.
    She was a member of the Eastern Star, where she was a former Grand Matron and Worthy Matron, and the Mother Lode Rollers.
    She enjoyed crafts, oil painting and ceramics.
    Mrs. Wildes is survived by her daughters, Jodie Wildes, of Sonora, Karen Yakel, of Antioch, and Marilyn Freitas, of Brentwood; three  grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wildes.
    Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Heuton Memorial  Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memory  Gardens in Concord. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Cleo Fern Strawn
Nov. 18, 1918 — Oct. 10, 2011

    Former Tuolumne resident Cleo Fern Strawn died Oct. 10 at the Windsor El Camino Care Center in Carmichael. She was 92.
    Born in Kingfisher County, Okla., to George and Myrtle Holder, she worked for the Watsonville Press for many years before becoming a part owner in the company.
    After she and her husband retired in 1976 they moved to Tuolumne.
    She was a member of the Gracepoint Adventist Church in Rocklin.
    She enjoyed golfing, knitting and crocheting.
    Mrs. Strawn is survived by her children, Patricia Heiser, of Sacramento, and Mike Strawn, of Watsonville; grandchildren, Mark Werner, of Weimar, Lana Furtado and Joseph Strawn, both of Watsonville, Pamela and Patrick Weigand, both of Sacramento, and AJ Strawn, of Silver Springs, Nev.; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchild.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marvin Strawn.
    No service is scheduled. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
