 Janiece Elaine (Vint)           ‘Jan’ Behymer

July 10, 1956 — Sept. 20, 2013

Sonora resident Janiece Elaine (Vint) “Jan” Behymer died Sept. 20 in an auto accident in the Phoenix Lake area. She was 57.

Mrs. Behymer was born and raised in San Diego, the daughter of Joy L. and Walter S. Vint.

She was a certified lifeguard and maintained a pool in San Diego before settling in Sonora in 1987.

She worked for years as a medical office manager until she left her job to care for her mother, Joy L. Vint, when she settled in Sonora. 

She married family physician Dr. Richard Behymer in 2007. 

Mrs. Behymer taught several generations of children to swim for many years and cared about children’s water safety, her family said.

She volunteered with youth soccer for a number of years in Tuolumne County.

She enjoyed surfing, taking walks on the beach, and attending San Francisco Giants baseball games. 

Mrs. Behymer is survived by her husband of six years, Richard E. Behymer, of Sonora; her mother, Joy L. Vint, of Sonora; father, Walter S. Vint, of San Felipe; her daughters and their spouses, Stephanie L. and Zeb George, of Sonora, and Julie L. and Andrew Wilson, of Sonora; grandchildren, Landon Jon Wilson, of Sonora, Hank Michael George, of Sonora; two step-grandchildren, Luke Bowen, of Sacramento, and Asher Behymer, of Seoul, S. Korea; and siblings, Michael Stephen Vint, of El Cajon, and Deanna Allred, of Oregon.

A private celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Twain Harte Golf Course clubhouse, 22909 Meadow Lane.

Cleotilde ‘Tila’                       (Gonzalez Fabian) Guzman

April 20, 1938 — Sept. 27, 2013

Former Sonora resident Cleotilde “Tila” (Gonzalez Fabian) Guzman died Friday in Modesto. She was 75. 

Mrs. Guzman was born in Michoacan, Mexico, the daughter of Concepcion Fabian Quintero and Luis Gonzalez Amezcua. 

She married Jose Guzman in 1954 and was a homemaker for nearly 60 years and raised six children.

She lived in Sonora from 1980 until 2010.

Mrs. Guzman enjoyed camping and swimming in the Sierra. She also enjoyed gardening, especially rose bushes and fruit trees.

Mrs. Guzman was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Luis Gonzalez Fabian Jr.; sister, Edelmira Gonzalez Fabian; and daughter-in-law, Flores Lourdes Guzman.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jose Guzman, of Modesto; her children, Lidia Guzman Gonzalez, of Modesto, Ramon Guzman, of Tuolumne, Olivia Guzman de Jimenez, of Mexico, Guadalupe Guzman Gonzales, of Mexico, Elizabeth Guzman, of Mexico; and Jose Guzman Jr., of Modesto; 20 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday immediately followed by a vigil, both at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sonora.

Leoris Ann (Lee) Rager

Oct. 14, 1932 — Sept. 26, 2013

Former Twain Harte resident Leoris Ann (Lee) Rager died Thursday in Roseville.

Mrs. Rager was born in Audubon, Iowa.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Rager, of Poland, Warren Rager, of Roseville, Laura Bloodgood, of Cool, in El Dorado County, and Norm Rager, of Grass Valley; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rager was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Rager.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Roseville Cemetery, 421 Berry St., Roseville.

Robert ‘Bob’ Lyman Halpin

Oct. 1, 1914 — Sep. 26, 2013 

Sonora resident Robert “Bob” Lyman Halpin died Thursday at his home. He was 98.

Mr. Halpin was born and raised in Atwater, the son of John William and Mabel Robin (Lyman) Halpin, who owned a ranch in the area.  

He started working at a young age and held various jobs throughout his life, including testing the content of cement for construction, working in a powdered milk processing plant which went to soldiers during World War II, a prison guard at Folsom Prison, driving a mail truck in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and bellman and night manager at the Tioga Hotel in Merced.  

Mr. Halpin had a 30-year career with Lucky supermarkets, where he worked at stores in the San Jose, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz areas. 

He served as a Santa Cruz County Sheriff Reserve officer for a number of years and retired as a lieutenant. 

He and his wife, Nita, were members of Poison Oakers Square Dance group in Groveland for several years. 

Mr. Halpin was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Neoma Oneita “Nita” (Scholl) Halpin, in March 2010. 

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Robin Ann Segarini, Campbell and Indio, Jane Oneita and Earl Liebich, of Morgan Hill, Richard Glen Halpin, of Sonora, and Timothy Robert and Janet Halpin, of Santa Cruz; his grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Darlene Segarini, of San Jose, Brian Segarini, of Long Beach, Stephanie Nix, of Nevada City, Jennifer and Rich Ofstedahl, of Victorville, Andrew Liebich, of Lodi, Alison and Bob Colarossi, of Lodi, Carol Halpin, of Santa Cruz, Kelly Halpin, of Hawaii, and Katie Halpin, of Santa Cruz; and four great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A burial will immediately follow at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

Joyce Ann ‘MeMe’ Ramsey

July 29, 1950 — Sept. 28, 2013

Former Tuolumne County resident Joyce Ann “MeMe” Ramsey died Sept. 28 in Casper, Wyo. She was 50.

Mrs. Ramsey was born in New Brunswick, N.J., to Michael and Mary Feher. She graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School in 1968 and later earned a degree in practical nursing from a technical school. 

She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., with her parents in her early 20s. 

While in Phoenix, she continued her nursing work and met Robert Ramsey Sr. They married in June 1979.

She and her husband moved to Tuolumne County shortly after getting married. They lived in the area for 13 years. 

Mrs. Ramsey has two children and spent years volunteering in their classrooms and making costumes. 

She and her family moved to the Bitterroot Valley in western Montana in 1993 and lived there for 16 years. The Ramseys recently settled in Casper, Wyo., to be closer to their grandsons.

She enjoyed cooking, outdoor adventures and creative projects. 

Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by her parents; and mother-in-law, Joan Ramsey. 

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Robert Ramsey Sr., of Casper; her children and their spouses, Talea and Brian Doner, of Casper, Robert Jr. and Jennifer Ramsey; and grandsons, Shane and Reece Doner, of Casper. 

Donations in her memory can be made to Joshua’s Storehouse, 334 S. Wolcott St., Casper, WY, 82601.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Newcomer Funeral Home in Casper, which is handling arrangements.
