Betty Jane  (Vett) Diermier

June 6, 1926 — Oct. 3, 2013

San Andreas resident Betty Jane (Vett) Diermier died Thursday at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Diermier was born in Anaheim, the daughter of Albert and Mary Vett. 

She met her future husband, Tom Diermier in 1940. He enlisted in the military in 1941 and his mother encouraged her to write letters to him.

They were married on Jan. 2, 1944, while he was home on leave.

Mrs. Diermier was a devout Catholic. She taught catechism and become a Master

Catechist. 

She enjoyed spending time with her book club.

She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2600 in San Andreas. She regularly attended Ladies’ Auxiliary meetings and served as secretary for many years. 

Mrs. Diermier enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, canning, gardening and tending her roses. She was a skilled seamstress and sewed clothing for her family. 

She enjoyed volunteering and devoted many hours serving the community.

Mrs. Diermier was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Peck; her parents; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Tom Diermier, of San Andreas; her children Jeannette Radcliffe, of Bozeman, Mont., Mike and Cathy Diermier, of Antioch, Dan Diermier, of Lathrop, Don and Mary Diermier, of Fairfield; brother-in-law, Raymond Diermier, of Southern California; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

ln lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Counties, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642, or VFW Post 2600, 156 E. St. Charles St., San Andreas, CA 95249.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

Adrian William  ‘Rene’ Kole

March 25, 1934 — Sept. 25, 2013

Sonora resident Adrian William “Rene” Kole died Sept. 25 at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. He was 79.

Mr. Kole was born in Sonora, the son of Pete and Kathleen Kole. 

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Mr. Kole worked as a lineman for AT&T for 36 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Mr. Kole was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Don and Jim Kole.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Kole, of Sonora; his son, Robert Kole, of Sonora, ex-daughter-in-law, Cindy Hammond, of Sonora; brother-in-law, Don Fulton, of Groveland; sister-in-law, Florence Kole, of Sonora; grandson, Nicholas Jacob “Nick” Kole, of Vietnam; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

No services are planned.

Betty Maxine Showalter Redshaw

April 16, 1924 — Sept. 6, 2013

Sonora resident Betty Maxine Showalter Redshaw died Sept. 6 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 89.  

Mrs. Redshaw was born in Iowa farm country near Haskins and grew up in the Iowa-Illinois area. She graduated from Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Ill., where she enjoyed art, home economics and athletics. 

On Oct. 16, 1943, she married Harold Redshaw in Davenport, Iowa, and they remained married for 69 years until his death in 2012. 

In 1959, they moved to Arcadia, Los Angeles County, and in 1996 they moved to Sonora.

Mrs. Redshaw was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, entertaining and shopping. She also enjoyed volunteering. 

In Sonora she participated in many activities at the Tuolumne County Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vera Showalter; her brothers, Robert Showalter and Don Showalter; and her husband, Harold Redshaw.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Russel, of Sonora; her grandson, Evan Russel, of Yosemite; and a niece.

A graveside service was held at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne on Sept. 11.

Audrey (Payne) Sweat

April 26, 1915 — Sept. 29, 2013

Tuolumne County resident Audrey (Payne) Sweat died Sunday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 98.

Mrs. Sweat was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of Otis and Maude Payne.

She moved to Sonora as a teenager in 1930 and lived with her mother, Maude Payne Barton.

She married Claude Sweat in 1932. They lived Sonora, where their two children, Carol and Gerald, were born. 

Mrs. Sweat held various jobs in Sonora, including kitchen work at the Sonora hospital, and part-time work for Punter’s Turkey Ranch. She retired in 1976.

She was recognized as the Tuolumne County Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2011 for her 26 years of service at the Sonora Senior Lounge.

Mrs. Sweat  was preceded in death by her parents; her a sister; her husband Claude Sweat; and her children, Carol and Gerald Sweat.

She is survived by her four grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Dawn Sweat, of Concord, Mike Sweat, of Acampo, Kim and Skye Andrews, of Livermore, and Scott and Cindy Sweat, of Acampo; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the East Garden Apartments lounge, 10347 Willow St., Jamestown.

AYALA — Servando “Ike” Ayala, 88, of Angels Camp, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sanger Cemetery, 568 South Rainbow Ave., Sanger. Farewell Funeral Service in Fresno is handling arrangements. 

BEHYMER — A public celebration of life for Janiece Elaine (Ross) Behymer will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Twain Harte Golf Course at 22909 Meadow Lane in Twain Harte. Mrs. Behymer, 57, of Sonora, died Sept. 20 in a car accident. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
