Sonora resident Velva Lorraine (Hobbensiefken) Dennis died Oct. 30 at her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Dennis was born in Hollydale in Los Angeles County, the daughter of Elizabeth and Henry Hobbensiefken.
She was a homemaker and raised four children in Southern California.
She and her husband retired to Sonora 38 years ago
She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly for 41 years and had many friends in the organization.
Mrs. Dennis was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Dennis, in 1987.
She is survived by her children, Dan Lee Dennis, of Seattle, Wash., William Dennis, of Cypress, Sandra Tucker, of Tuolumne, and Elizabeth Boles, of Redlands; siblings, Harry Hobby, of San Diego, Lee Hobbensiefken, of Tustin, and Betty Barry, of Tennessee; grandchildren, Julie Roberts, of Rescue, Christine Irvine, of Sonora, Lacy Dennis, of Garden Grove, Sarah Atkinson, of Lakewood, and Billy Dennis, of Stanton; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery, Sonora.

Mitchell Keith Kersey

Sonora resident Mitchell Keith Kersey died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 55.
Mr. Kersey was born in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Ralph and Sue Kersey.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1980, spending two years in West Germany and two years at Fort Lewis in Washington.
He settled in Sonora 20 years ago and worked as a general contractor.
Mr. Kersey enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with this family.
Mr. Kersey was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Kersey.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kelly Kersey, of Sonora; his mother, Sue Kersey, of Sonora; and his children, Alan Kersey and Philip Kersey, both of Sonora.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora.
