Dorothy Vivian (Welshinger) Gilles

Sonora resident Dorothy Vivian (Welshinger) Gilles died Saturday at Skyline Place. She was 91.
Mrs. Gilles was born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Mary Welshinger.
She grew up in Minneapolis, Minn., and met Donald Gilles in 1935. They married in 1941.
She gave birth to twins, Donald and Doral, while her husband served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his service, they had a second set of twins, David and Diane.
Mrs. Gilles and her husband lived in Minneapolis before settling in San Leandro for a number of years.
He worked at J.C. Penney and moved to Tuolumne County to manage the Sonora store 53 years ago.
Mrs. Gilles volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sierra Hospital and later Sonora Community Hospital and was a member of the Aronos Research Women’s Club and Elks Travel Club. She was a charter member of the Twain Harte Golf Course. She also worked at polling places during elections for many years.
Mrs. Gilles was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gilles, in 2000; and son, Doral Gilles, in 1996.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Donald Jr. and Annie Gilles, of Visalia, David and Casey Gilles, of Carson City, Nev., and Diane Schluck and Burt Hillman, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren, Christopher Gilles, of Elk Grove, Kirk Gilles, of Visalia, Michael Schluck, of Laramie, Wyo., Tony Schluck, of Denver, Colo., Jason Gilles, of Reno, Scott Gilles, of Reno, Aaron Gilles, of Murphys, and Todd Gilles, of Turlock;13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Welch, of Oregon.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mary Jane Teresa (Le Blanc) Knudson

Copperopolis resident Mary Jane Teresa (Le Blanc) Knudson died Friday at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. She was 83.
Mrs. Knudson was born and raised in Proctor, Minn., one of nine children born to Catherine and Richard Le Blanc.
She met Darrell Knudson while he served in the U.S. Air Force.
After his discharge, they married in Oct. 1954 and settled in Wadena, Minn.; and had a son, Jeff Knudson.
She and her family moved to California after her husband was hired by Lockheed aerospace company, where he worked as a research engineer.
They had four more children, Jane, Richard, Brian and Barry Knudson, in California.
Mrs. Knudson and her husband settled in Copperopolis 20 years ago.
She enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening and big family dinners.
Mrs. Knudson was preceded in death by her parents; and seven siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Darrell Knudson, of Copperopolis; her children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Barb Knudson, of Richmond, Mo., Jane and Don Ham, of Copperopolis, Richard and Kathy Knudson, Riverbank, Brian Knudson, of Copperopolis, and Barry Knudson, San Jose; brother, Malvin Le Blanc, of Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 127 W. Jackson St., Sonora. A reception will follow at a family home.
Inurnment will be at Copperopolis Cemetery.
San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
BRAVO AND REAVIS — A memorial service for Evonne Moselle Bravo, 28, and Jason Lafayette Reavis, 33, both of Tuolumne, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. Both died in a car accident Oct. 6. A potluck gathering will follow from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Stage 3 Theatre, 208 S. Green St., Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
