Richard ‘Dick’
Fredrick Davis
Jan. 2, 1937 — Nov. 17, 2011

    Lifelong Sonora resident Richard “Dick” Fredrick Davis died Nov. 17 at his residence. He was 74.
    Born at the county hospital in Sonora, to Leland Bryson and Elsie Evelyn Davis, he grew up on his family’s mining claim, where Columbia College is now located.
    He left school when he was 16 and began working at the Rock Quarry in Jamestown, where he worked for about 40 years.
    He enjoyed bird watching, collecting coins, helping others, old trains and tractors, and taking care of his black labradors, Feather and Winddancer. He was also a San Francisco 49ers fan.
    Mr. Davis is survived by his son, Leland Bryson Davis, of Sonora; and siblings, James L. Davis, of Eureka, and Leora Henthorne, of Plano, Texas.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Ann Davis; brother, Samuel Davis; and two infant siblings.
    No service is scheduled.

    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Margie Barbera
July 25, 1926 — Nov. 20, 2011

    Sonora resident Margie Barbera died Sunday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 85.
    Born in Eureka, to Ellis and Beth Davidson, her great-grandfather discovered the Oregon caves in 1874.
    She was a body builder who worked out with the first Tarzan, Johnny Wisemiller.
    She and her husband, Felix, owned and operated a tennis camp in Bear Valley every summer for 18 years, where her husband taught tennis to Lloyd Bridges and his family, among many others.
    She lived in Twain Harte for many years before moving to Sonora in 1995.
    She enjoyed crafts, tennis, camping, being outdoors, and snow and water skiing. She especially enjoyed playing golf, her and her granddaughter, Andrea, having won trophies for hitting a hole in one.
    On her 80th birthday, she went four-wheeling in the sand dunes at Pismo Beach.
    Mrs. Barbera is survived by her daughters, Vicki Barbera, of Twain Harte, and Deborah Barbera, of Bear Valley; sister, Betty Schultz, of Walnut Creek; grandchildren, Andrea Fray, of Sonora, Justin Fox and Jordan Barbera, both of San Diego, Jason Fox, of Cherry Valley, Janella Fox, of Hollywood, Joel Fox, of Las Vegas, and Nicholai Malin, of Carlsbad; and nine great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Barbera.
    A private family service is scheduled for a later date on the beach in Carlsbad.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Kathleen Diana
May 15, 1952 — Nov. 18, 2011

    Jamestown resident Kathleen Diana Moreno-Diaz died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 59.
    Born in San Francisco to Shirley Keyer-Llewellyn, she was a computer consultant in the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara areas for 30 years.
    She lived in Jamestown for eight years.
    She enjoyed laughing and collecting items that had to do with tigers.
    Mrs. Moreno-Diaz is survived by her husband, Miguel Diaz, of Jamestown; children, Teresa Lewis-Rodriguez, of Gilroy, and Anthony M. Moreno, of Sacramento; and grandchildren, Destiny Moreno, of Sacramento, and Nicholas and Thomas Rodriguez, both of Gilroy; and mother, Shirley Keyer-Llewellyn, of San Jose.
    No service is scheduled.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
