Sonora resident Michael Evans died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 57.
Born in Louisville, Ky., to Thomas and Hazel Evans, he was the president responsible for U.S. operation for Sortex for 15 years.
He lived in Sonora for five years.
He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, and volunteered for St. James’ Food Ministry and St. Patrick’s Breakfast Ministry.
He enjoyed hiking and reading.
Mr. Evans is survived by his ex-wife, Mary Evans, of Tracy; sons, Benjamin Evans, of Tracy, and Scott Evans, of Durham, N.C.; sister, Wanda Evans, of St. Paul, Minn.; mother, Hazel Evans, of St. Paul, Minn.; and grandson, Ryder Kessell, of Sonora.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Evans.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at the St. James Anglican Church, Sonora.

Former Sonora resident Gertrude Marion Thon died Thursday at her daughter’s home in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was 91.
Born in Gloucester, N.J., to Hannibal and Gertrude Hoke, she worked in the Avon Products Offices in Pasadena for many years. She lived in Sonora for 24 years, where she attended the American Baptist Church in East Sonora.
For the past six years, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Alvin Boucher, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Mrs. Thon is survived by her children and their spouses, Bruce and Mary Thon, of Sonora, and Priscilla and Alvin Boucher, and Christine and Gibson Mann, all of Hattiesburg, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Allen Thon.
No service is scheduled.

Former Sonora resident Myron “Mike” Larson died Nov. 15 at Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham, Texas. He was 83.
Born in Clark, S.D., to Anna and Almer Larson, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He lived in Sonora for about 40 years, before he and his wife Pat began traveling throughout the U.S. in their RV. The couple later settled in Yuma, Ariz.
For the past three years he lived in Murphy, Texas, with his stepdaughter and her husband.
Mr. Larson is survived by his son, Michael Larson, of Sonora; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Jim Bragg, of Palo Alto; four stepchildren; four granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Larson; daughter, Linda Rolfe; and his siblings.
No service is scheduled.
He will be buried in Clark, S.D., in the spring.
