Martha Louise ‘Marty’ (Fuqua) DeRose

Jamestown resident Martha Louise “Marty” (Fuqua) DeRose died Saturday at Avalon Care Center. She was 86.
Mrs. DeRose was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., the daughter of Martha Louise (Rankin) and Samuel G. Fuqua.
She completed a registered nursing program at Delphi College in New York and earned a master’s degree in nursing from Columbia University.
She taught nursing at El Camino Junior College in Torrance and worked as a pediatric nurse clinician at the University of California, Los Angeles, in the 1970s.
Mrs. DeRose settled in Jamestown in 1985.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Mrs. DeRose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph DeRose; her son, Joseph DeRose Jr.; and her brother, William Fuqua.
She is survived by her children, Margaret DeRose, of Thousand Oaks, Christina DeRose, of Sonora; grandchildren, Justin Calbert and Zachary Calbert, both of Sonora, and Kristi Calbert, of Norwood, Colo.; and one great-grandchild.
A private family service will be held.

Jamestown resident Stephen Lowe died Nov. 13 at his home. He was 65.
Mr. Lowe was born in Oakland, the son of Jacqueline and Richard Lowe.
His family moved to Tuolumne County 50 years ago, after vacationing in the area for several years.
He graduated from Sonora High School in 1960.
Mr. Lowe was a heavy metal worker and did construction for 17 years for Phelps Construction Co. He traveled across the Western United States for his work and also helped build the Timberhills Shopping Center.
He also worked as a manager in the janitorial department at the Chicken Ranch Casino from 2003 until 2012.
He enjoyed gardening, wood carving, drawing, printing, and soapstone carving.
Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lowe; and his brother, Daniel Lowe, in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Lowe, of Jamestown; his mother, Jacqueline Lowe, of Jamestown; his children, Jason Wallace, of Southern California, Danielle Sandelin, of Sonora, Rebecca Ramos, of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepson, James Franks, of Columbia; his brother, David Lowe, of Jamestown; sister-in-law, Jennifer Martinez, of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
