Daniel Brian Darby

Angels Camp resident Daniel Brian Darby died Nov. 9 at his home. He was 79.
Mr. Darby was born at home in Murphys, the son of Jay Anson “Chub” Darby and Florence Darby. He was the youngest of seven children.
He was a lifelong resident of Calaveras County, except during the time he served in the U.S. Navy as a cook on the USS Marion County LST-975.
He married Eleanor Schena in June 1957 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp. They purchased a home in Angels Camp, where they raised their four children and his wife still lives.
After the Navy, Mr. Darby worked at the Calaveras Cement Plant in San Andreas and later worked 30 years for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. as a water systems repairman.
After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Darby travelled to Italy, France, Switzerland and Sweden and visited relatives. They also enjoyed attending his annual Navy reunions, held in many states around the country. One trip took them to visit friends in Montreal and other Canadian provinces.
He was a volunteer in the community, and enjoyed cooking Navy beans for groups such as the Italian Catholic Federation, the Angels Gun Club, Native Sons of the Golden West and all the family events.
He was also a member of the Mother Lode A’s Car Club, Italian Catholic Friends RV Club and Figli D’italia in Sonora.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor Darby, of Angels Camp; children and their spouses, Daniel Brian Darby Jr. and Jeannae Darby, of Angels Camp, Denise and Dave Volpetti, of Oakhurst, Mike and Linda Darby, of Angels Camp, and Rob and Veronica Darby, of Sweden; grandsons, Kyle Robinson and Andrew Volpetti, of Oakhurst, Evan Robinson and his wife, Tiffany, of Clovis, Sean Darby and his wife, Kelly, of Angels Camp, Josiah and Joseph Darby, of Angels Camp, and Rasmus and Lucas Darby, of Sweden; Fawn Willis, of Angels Camp, Michelle Bergeson, of Angels Camp, Billy Rorabach, of Arnold; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family, most of whom still live in Calaveras County.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp, followed by a reception at the Native Sons Hall in Murphys.
There will be a private burial at a later date.

Roy William Pearson

Sonora resident Roy William Pearson died Nov. 12 at Avalon Care Center. He was 79.
Mr. Pearson was born in El Monte, Calif., to Dwight and Evelyn Pearson.
He served in the U.S. National Guard and the U.S. Air Force for four years each.
Following his years the service, he went into business. He owned Pearson’s Hay Hauling for 25 years in El Nido. He also raised cattle.
Mr. Pearson lived in Sonora for the past six years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Pearson; his mother, Evelyn (Tennis) Pearson; and brothers, Raymond and Richard Pearson.
Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Pearson, of Sonora; his son, Dean Pearson; his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John O’Brien; grandchildren, Kasey Donald O’Brien and Chad Roy O’Brien; and siblings, Betty Jorge, Roger Pearson and Russell Pearson.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
