Charles Reese

March 1, 1952 — May 1, 2003

Charles Reese of Groveland died May 1 at his residence from a sudden death. He was 51.

He was born in Oakland and lived in Groveland for 24 years. He was a self-employed contractor for 15 years.

Mr. Reese loved motorcycles, gold panning, the outdoors, drawing and the ocean.

He is survived by his son, Dustin Reese of Groveland; mother, Geraldine Reese of Gilroy; and his sister, Becky Carey of Pleasanton.

No services are scheduled. Heuton Memorial Chapel will be handling arrangements.

Delores Webb

May 29, 1920 — May 2, 2003

Delores (Dee) Webb, formerly of Sonora, died May 2 at the Woodside Nursing Center in San Luis Obispo. She was 82.

Mrs. Webb, the youngest child of a family of 14 children, was born in Iowa.

She met her husband, Frank, at the Iowa School for the Deaf in the 1930s. They married in 1941 and then relocated to Los Angeles. In 1989, they retired to Sonora, where she resided for more than 13 years until she moved to San Luis Obispo in late 2002.

She enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her family and many friends.

Mrs. Webb is survived by her two daughters, Beverly With and her husband Christopher With of Washington, D.C., and Cindy Besserer of Nipomo and formerly of Sonora for 18 years; and three grandchildren, Corey Adams, Collin Adams and Cody Besserer; and three great-grandsons.

Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death in June of 2000.

She was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Wilma M. Hart

March 4, 1939 — May 7, 2003

Wilma M. Hart, a longtime resident of Sonora, died Wednesday at Sonora Community Hospital. She was 64.

She was born in San Andreas and lived in Sonora for 16 years. Mrs. Hart and her husband, Jay, graduated together from Franklin High School in the class of 1958. While she lived in Stockton for 32 years from 1955 to 1987, she and Jay led the First Freewill Baptist Church in Stockton for 13 years.

Mrs. Hart worked at Wal-Mart for 10 years as an associate in the fabric department. She loved to crochet baby blankets for everyone and was a member of Creekside Community Church, for which her husband served as pastor for 13 years.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, the Rev. Jay Hart of Sonora; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jay Jr. and Anna, Joe and Kim, Jason and Michele Hart, all of Sonora; a sister, Irma Keaster of Jamestown; and nine grandchildren, John, Stephanie, Melissa, Rebecca, Joey, Jennifer, Jessica, and Jay and Mandi Hart, all of Sonora.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Chapel in the Pines, Twain Harte. A reception will follow at the Creekside Community Church. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Linden Cemetery, Linden. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Helen G. Sedam

July 26, 1911 — April 23, 2003

Helen G. Sedam, a longtime Sonora resident, died April 23 at Masonic Home in Union City, Alameda County. She was 91.

Born in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Sedam lived in Tuolumne County for 28 years.

She and her husband, Robert, a retired Navy man, moved to Soulsbyville in 1965. After his death, she moved to Sonora, where she lived for 20 years. She relocated to Union City in June of 1994 and lived there for nine years.

A veteran, she served as a nurse in Guam during and after World War II. She was an active member of the Sonora Baptist Church, life member of Tuolumne Star Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 123, volunteer at Sonora Community Hospital Auxiliary, member of AARP, was active in Girl Scouts, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7636 in Hayward, Republican Women and the Red Cross Disaster Team, and served in the Navy from 1943-51.

A self-employed homemaker for 71 years, Mrs. Sedam was an avid bridge player and traveler.

She is survived by her nephew, Scott Rittenhouse, of Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sedam, in 1970.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Chester R. Standage

Dec. 29, 1924 — May 3, 2003

Chester Standage, a longtime resident of Tuolumne, died May 3 at a Sonora Community Hospital. He was 78.

He was born in Kansas and lived in Tuolumne for 39 years and worked as a foreman at Asplund & Davey Trees in Sonora for 15 years.

Mr. Standage loved family activities, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by a son, Robert Standage of Blythe; a daughter, Peggy Gabbard of Copperas Cove, Texas; three brothers, William of Sacramento, John of Annapolis, Md., and Donald Standage of Martinez; three sisters, Carrie Rupp of Medford, Ore., Dorothy Bonds of Red Bluff, and May Comer of Sacramento; six grandchildren; and 18 nieces and nephews.

No services are planned, and the place of rest is private. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Avenue Suite No. 8, Modesto, 95350.
