Herman Cedric Radford

Herman Cedric Radford, a 20-year resident of Rail Road Flat, died May 4 at the Norwood Pines Alzheimer's Center in Sacramento. He was 87.
Mr. Radford, a retired logger, spent more than 40 years working and supervising in the logging industry near the Auburn, Forest Hill and Wilseyville areas.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Volcano and an active member of the Rail Road Flat Community Bible Church.
Mr. Radford's family said he will be remembered for his big smile, generosity and gentle spirit.
He is survived by his second wife, of 23 years, Mrs. Geraldine Wells Radford of Rail Road Flat; a daughter, Wanda Karl of Marysville; a son, Warren Radford of Auburn; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Radford of Forest Hill; a stepdaughter, Myrna Hunt of Citrus Heights; and his beloved seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His first wife, Florence Radford, and a son, Herman L. Radford, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Henry Sweeney.

Alvin Frank Smalling

Alvin Frank Smalling of Sonora died Tuesday at his residence. He was 71.
Before moving to Sonora, he was a resident of Paradise for eight years. He was married to his wife, Joan, for 47 1/2 years.
Mr. Smalling served as an electrician technician for 20 years with the U.S. Navy from 1952-71 before working for 12 years for the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. He retired in 1983.
He enjoyed traveling in his RV, doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Mr. Smalling is survived by his wife, Joan Smalling of Sonora; a son, Ron Smalling of Kelso, Wash.; a daughter, Lisa Tebaldi of Sonora; two grandchildren, Gary Nobriga of Sonora and Matt Smalling of Modesto; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Smalling of Modesto; a sister, Arlene Haugen of Great Falls, Mont.; a brother, Tyler Smalling of Albany, Ore.; a step-granddaughter, Erika Rhoades of Manteca; a step great-granddaughter, Kierstan Rhoades of Manteca; and a step-grandson, Nick Tebaldi of Norfolk, Virg.
At his request, no public services will be held. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Zilda Mary Arthur

Zilda Mary Arthur, a three-year resident of Jackson and an Angels Camp native, died Monday at Amador Residential Care in Jackson. She was 94.
Mrs. Arthur was born in Angels Camp and lived there until 2000. Her parents were Frank and Josephine Bacigalupi Delucchi of Calaveritas.
She was a 1926 graduate of Bret Harte High School. On Jan. 13, 1934, she married Jesse William Ora Arthur of Murphys. After graduation, Mrs. Arthur worked for Pacific Bell Telephone in Angels Camp as a night operator until becoming a full-time, devoted mother.
She was an avid sports fan who especially liked baseball and basketball. She played on the 1925 Bret Harte High School girls' baseball team. Mrs. Arthur served as the historian and a committee member for the annual Bret Harte Union High school reunion, and a member of the Crescent Chapter No. 165 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Murphys.
She is survived by her son and two daughters-in-law, Jesse L. and Judi Arthur of Merced, and Carol Emerson of Sutter Creek; three grandchildren, Stacy Crane, Michael Arthur and Gary Arthur; a step-grandson, Dwight Foyil; three great-grandsons, B.J. and Ben Crane and Roland Arthur; nieces Dodie Erickson and Lorraine Froeliger; and nephew Jack Rebosio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, in 1970; son, Allen in 2002; three brothers, Louis, Edmund and Leslie Delucchi; and sister, Mamie Rebosio.
Private services and burial will be at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys. There will not be any visitation. Contributions can be made to Hospice of Amador County, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
KIRK Wesley David Kirk of Wilseyville died Sunday at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. A visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain Ranch Cemetery. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
HART Wilma Hart of Sonora died yesterday evening at a local hospital. She was 64. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
