Sheryl Katz Kimmel

Sheryl Katz Kimmel, 62, died Tuesday morning, April 22, in Sonora from diabetic complications.
Sheryl was born in Redlands, Calif., on Sept. 15, 1951. She graduated from UCLA Dental
School-Dental Hygiene Program and was a dental hygienist for more than 30 years working first in Los Angeles and then in Sonora from 1992 until retiring in 2009 for health reasons.
Sheryl was always active in a Christian church. In her youth, she sang in a traveling choir with Van Nuys Baptist, later teaching Sunday School and Awanas at Sierra Bible and recently participated in women’s fellowships and Bible studies through her home church at Calvary Chapel Sonora.
Sheryl was a member of the California Dental Hygienist Association and Tuolumne County Garden Club for many years.
Sheryl is survived by husband, Charles; daughters, Jessica Katz and Christina Terrell; son-in-law Brandon Terrell; step-daughter Hailey Kimmel; and sisters Donna Hart and Bonnie Bomar.
On Saturday, May 17, a celebration of life, service, fellowship and potluck will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel. (Directions: from Sonora take 108 bypass toward Twain Harte for about eight miles, after highway becomes four lanes, turn right at stoplight onto Soulsbyville Road, then one mile. LeVerna M. Pardina
Oct 19, 1914 - April 30, 2014
LeVerna “Bunnie” Pardina passed away on April 30, 2014, after a long stay in a local care facility at the age of 99.
She was born in Iola, Kan. At a young age she moved to Van Nuys, Calif. After graduation from high school, her family moved to Columbia, where she said “during tough times” they lived in a tent with a dirt floor. She would pan enough gold to go to the Saturday night dance.
Bunnie was a long time resident of both Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
Bunnie married Frank Lertora during World War II. They both worked at the Mare Island Shipyard and lived in Vallejo. They had a son, John, while living in Vallejo.
In the late 1950s she divorced from Frank and later married Clifton Mitchell. In the 1960s, they built and operated Black Creek Lodge on Tulloch Reservoir until Cliff’s death in 1966. She then moved to Jamestown and a few years later married Melix Pardina. They had a winter home in Yuma, Ariz., where they enjoyed hiking and exploring the desert.
Bunnie enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and was active in the AmVets.
She is survived by her son, John (Joyce) Lertora, of Stockton; and three grandchildren, Frank Lertora (Ashley), of Astoria, Ore., Larry Lertora, of Lockford, and Lisa Lertora Mantantes (Tony), of Lodi; and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Jamestown Cemetery on Woods Way.
Funeral services are being handled by Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.
Dolores (Crocker) McKean
June 30, 1931 - April 29, 2014
Dolores (Crocker) McKean, a 32-year resident of Sonora, passed away on April 29, 2014, at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 82 years old.
Dolores was born on June 30, 1931, in Honesdale, Pa. She was a Correctional Counselor for 20 years and enjoyed reading, gardening and being with her family.
She is survived by her five children, Janice Chechourka, of Sonora, Sheila Casto, of Sacramento, Linda McKean, of Highland, Carolyn Baker of Kappa, Hawaii, and Sean McKean, of Riverside; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister, Charlene Smith of Pennsylvania.
Services will be held at a later date. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
