H. Kem Thompson

Copperopolis resident H. Kem Thompson died April 30 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 84.
Mr. Thompson was born in Springfield, Mo., and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a small plane pilot since age 17. He retired from United Technologies in 1992 where he was an aerospace engineer. Mr. Thompson built custom cabinets and furniture for the next 18 years. He had a country western band during his 30s and enjoyed traveling, especially to Canyonlands National Park, Utah. He lived in Copperopolis for 23 years.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Constance Lane Thompson, in 2012; and siblings Dorothy Rutledge and Keith Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dee Thompson, of Copperopolis; his daughter, Pamela Jean Barton, of Palmdale; stepsons, James Francis, Jesse Francis, Shawn Francis and Christian Francis; and stepdaughters, Renee Francis and Rachelle Stamm; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings Betty Cummings, Barbara Rumley, Bernie Thompson and Ann Haar.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. May 26 at Black Creek Homeowners Association Building C, 920 Black Creek Drive, Copperopolis, with a potluck to follow.
