Paul Hammond Gary

Valley Springs resident Paul Hammond Gary died May 19 at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Gary was born in Maryland and lived in Valley Springs for 33 years. He was a forklift operator a lumber company.
He is survived by his wife, Leona M. Gary, of Valley Springs; daughters, Carolyn Blesio, of Valley Springs, Kathy Schmidt, of Valley Springs, and Susan Malone, of Glendale; his son, Paul Dennis Gary, of Valley Springs; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.
San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
Henry Herbert ‘Hank’ Middleton
May 30, 1919 — May 23, 2012
Longtime Angels Camp resident Henry Herbert “Hank” Middleton died May 23 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was 92.
Mr. Middleton was born in Redlands to Henry and Mattye Middleton. He lived in Thermal on a date farm until he entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1942. After his military service, he moved to the Los Angeles area where he lived until his marriage to Matilda ‘Mat’ Salvato in 1946. In 1947, they moved to Walnut Creek and, in 1955, to Angels Camp.
The couple started Middleton’s Furniture and Appliance store in 1955. In 1960, he developed the Middleton’s Mark Twain Shopping Center, the first shopping center in Calaveras County. His was the first business to bring television to Calaveras County.
Mr. Middleton served as a Calaveras County supervisor from 1972 to 1974. He was past president of the Angels Camp Veterans Memorial District Board and he was a Mason for 55 years.
Mr. Middleton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mat Middleton, of Angels Camp; children and their spouses, George “Curley” and Jeannie Middleton, of Altaville, Eileen and John Dawson, of Murphys, Joyce Middleton Deem and David Deem, of Fernley, Nev., Richard “Dick” and Mary Middleton, of Stockton, Robert “Bob” and Susan Middleton, of Angels Camp and Richard and Rosalind Cathcart, of Altaville; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Florence Milligan, of Peoria, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mattye Middleton; and his brother, Richard Middleton.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Angels Memorial Chapel with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp.
Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Angels Camp. A reception to follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church hall.
A donation in his name may be made to the Angels Camp Fire Department, P.O. Box 667, Angels Camp, CA 95222 or to a charity of choice.

GARRETT — Roy Garrett, 86, of Sonora, died Friday at Avalon Care Center. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
