Mary Anne Kovacs

May 29, 1912 – May 27, 2004

Longtime Arnold resident Mary Anne Kovacs died yesterday at a San Andreas hospital. She was 91.

She was born in Lorraine, Ohio, and had lived in Arnold for 60 years. She opened Ebbetts Pass Lumber Company in 1950 and was the owner and operator with her late husband, George, for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Sierra Catholic Church and the church's altar society.

She is survived by her son, Bob Kovacs of Arnold; a daughter, Dolores Baber of Stanton, Va.; a brother, Paul Csubak of Florida; a sister, Irene Hellie of Ohio; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kovacs, in 1984.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Monday at Angels Memorial Chapel, and a rosary will follow at 6 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Murphys Catholic Cemetery in Murphys. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday at Our Lady of the Sierra Catholic Church in Arnold.

Donations can be made Our Lady of the Sierra Shrine Fund, P.O. Box 692, Arnold, CA 95223.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

James Ford Striegel III

August 11, 1970 – May 23, 2004

Former Tuolumne County resident James Ford Striegel III died Sunday in a boating accident in Fresno. He was 33.

He was born in Castro Valley and lived in Columbia and Groveland. He attended Columbia Elementary School and Tenaya Elementary School. He graduated from Sonora High School.

He later lived in North Carolina, Monterey and most recently in Fresno. He worked as a waiter at Fifi's Cafe in Pacific Grove for six years.

Mr. Striegel is survived by his mother, Bonnie Scott of Modesto; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Bobby Wrighton of Seaside, Monterey County; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Billy and Taylor Wr-ighton, all of Seaside; and his father and stepmother, James Striegel Jr. and Clare Striegel of Washington.

A celebration of life was to be held at 2 p.m. today in Monterey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bonnie Scott's name in memory of James Ford Striegel III at any Bank of America.

Seaside Chapel is handling arrangements.


GOMEZ — Edward Gomez, 51, of Sonora died this morning at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

SHARON — A graveside service for Dennis Hall Sharon, 51, of Mi-Wuk Village was to be held at 2 p.m. today at Mountain Shadow Cemetery. He died Saturday at his home. Terzich and Wilson is handling arrangements.
