Minnie (Wind) Wolfinbarger

Nov. 23, 1940 – May 15, 2006

Longtime Sonora resident Minnie (Wind) Wolfinbarger died May 15 at a San Jose hospital. She was 65.

She was born in Bellflower, Los Angeles County, and had lived in Sonora for 35 years. She graduated from Bellflower Christian High School in 1958 and worked for Data Design Laboratories in Ontario, San Bernardino County. She was a retired special education teacher's aid from Sonora High School.

She also worked for Pickering Lumber Company in Standard, in the gift shop at Sierra Railroad in Jamestown and Sonora Farmers' Market. She also did mission trips and hospice care.

She is survived by her brother, Harm Wind, of Artesia; a sister, Clara North, of Buena Park; nieces and nephews, Debbie Lemen, Randy Wind, Darla O'toole, Dana Gerdes, Heather Allan and Sarah North; cousins, Ralph Wind, Clara Wells, Janice Blake, Hilda Smith and Harry Wind; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles in the Netherlands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha Andree Wind, in October 1979, and Gerben Wind in May 1990.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Private burial is scheduled at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Philip Ruben Hernandez

Oct. 2, 1936 – May 8, 2006

Former Sonora resident Philip Ruben Hernandez died May 8 at his Modesto home. He was 69.

He was born in San Jose and had lived in Sonora for one year. He had most recently lived in Modesto for six years.

He worked as a landscaper for San Jose Park and Recreation District for 10 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and coaching ladies' softball.

He was a James Lick High School band alumni in San Jose where he was a trombone and drum major, and was a member of Santa Clara Chapter of the Mexican American Political Association.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his caretaker, Rudy Hernandez, of Modesto; a daughter, Letha Hernandez, of Modesto, and Philip D. Hernandez, of San Jose; brothers, Chuck Hernandez, of Sonora, and Eddie and Isaac Hernandez, both of Modesto; sisters, Angelina Gaxiola, of Sonora, Barbara Sinkiewicz, of Tuolumne, and Rosemary Valenzuela, of San Jose; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Hernandez; and a daughter, Christina Hernandez.

Services were held.

Cunningham's Affordable Burial and Cremation in Modesto is handling arrangements.

Catherine Vargas

Sept. 9, 1952 – May 19, 2006

Valley Springs resident Catherine Vargas died Friday at her home of natural causes. She was 53.

She was born in Oakland and moved to Concord in 1996. She moved to Linden in 1998 and had most recently lived in Valley Springs for four years.

She worked as a real estate investor.

She is survived by her husband, Warren Chaffee, of Somerset, El Dorado County; daughters, Nicole and Michelle Chaffee, both of Valley Springs; a son, Sean Chaffee, of Valley Springs; and a sister, Linda Vargas, of Fairfield.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Angels Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


COLLINGWOOD — William Collingwood, 91, of Mi-Wuk Village, died yesterday at a San Andreas hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
