Elizabeth Dungan

Dec. 10, 1916 — May 17, 2004

Longtime Tuolumne resident Margaret Elizabeth Dungan died Monday at her home. She was 87.

She was born in Knightsen, Contra Costa County and lived in Tuolumne for 67 years. She was a homemaker for 50 years.

She loved canning peppers and cooking, her family said, and had a great sense of humor.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Georgiann Dungan of Las Vegas and Rodney Dungan and his companion, Hannelie, and her son, Le-nnie, all of Germany; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Larry Hansen of Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County; a sister, Laurene Jones of Vallecito; and grandchildren, Susan Gibson and her husband, Steven, of Henderson, Nev., Anna Dungan of Las Vegas, Larry Hansen Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Atascadero, San Luis Obispo County, and Lorie Lynn Hansen of Arroyo Grande.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dungan, in 1985.

A chapel service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home's Tuolumne Chapel. Burial will be at Carters Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice of the Sierra, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370 or the Tuolumne City Memorial Museum, P.O. 1174, Tuolumne, CA 95379.

Jessie F. Gravett

Oct. 23, 1929 — May 12, 2004

Jessie F. Gravett of Sonora died Wednesday, May 12, at her home. She was 74.

She was born in San Francisco and lived in Sonora for six years. She was a homemaker.

Her family said she enjoyed watching soap operas and had many autographed pictures of soap opera stars.

Her family said she enjoyed reading, writing and traveling, and corresponding with her many pen pals, whom she met while traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bill Gravett of Sonora; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Gravett of Colorado; a daughter, Cheryl Gravett of Sonora; a granddaughter, Tara Peters of San Jose; and a great-granddaughter, Zoey Peters of San Jose.

No services are scheduled at her request.

Mary Elizabeth (Hussey) Beck

July 6, 1908 — May 13, 2004

Mary Elizabeth (Hussey) Beck, mother of Barbara Couch of Sonora, died May 13 at her daughter's home. She was 95.

She was born in Carthage, Mo., and lived in San Francisco for 74 years. She was a homemaker and a mother. Her hobbies included dressmaking, millinery, knitting and crocheting, her family said.

She and her husband were square and round dancers for several years in the Bay Area and were members of an RV group.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Frank H. Beck of San Francisco; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Couch of Sonora; a grandson, Tod A. Couch and his wife, Niki, of San Rafael; a granddaughter, Karen Couch of Sonora; great-grandsons, Nicholas Goins and James Franks, both of Sonora, and Austin and Dillon Couch, both of San Rafael; and a great-granddaughter, Natasha Goins of Sonora.

Myron Neal Purdy

Nov. 9, 1917 — May 7, 2004

Myron Neal Purdy of Tuolumne died May 7 at his home. He was 86.

He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and lived in Tuolumne for three years.

He worked as a safety inspector for Safeway for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He received the Korean Gold Star.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Little League coach and Boy Scout leader.

His family said he loved hunting, fishing and camping.

Mr. Purdy is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Purdy and Ralph Purdy, all of Tuolumne; a daughter, Hazel Gregory of Warren, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Robert Solar of Los Angeles and William Berryhill of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law, Adaline Bradshaw and her husband, James, of Placerville, El Dorado County, and Gloria Moore of Minden, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and ne-phews.

He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Jerry Purdy.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.

Dr. James

Dana Russell

Jan. 16, 1929 — May 17, 2004

Dr. James Dana Russell of Angels Camp died Monday at his home. He was 75.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and lived in Angels Camp for eight years. He previously lived in Gilroy for many years.

He worked as a veterinarian for 40 years. He started at Yosemite Veterinary Hospital in Modesto in 1955, then moved to Wisconsin, where he worked for several biotech companies in lab animal research. He returned to California in 1974 and began work for Simonsen Laboratories in Gilroy, where he did lab animal medical research. While working at Simonsen Laboratories, he worked as a consultant for the Veterans Administration in San Francisco. He retired from Simonsen Laboratories as a director of research.

He was a member of the Greenhorn Creek Golf Club, Murphys branch of Sons In Retirement and the Angels Gun Club.

Dr. Russell is survived by his wife, June Russell of Angels Camp; sons, Dane Russell of Madison, Wis., Dale Russell of Sacramento and Scott Russell of Citrus Heights; a daughter, Beth Pena of Gilroy; stepdaughters, Laura Skokandic of Diamond Bar, Los Angeles County, and Ellen Larrick of Visalia, Tulare County; a stepson, Don Larrick of Las Vegas; a sister, Barbara Neumann of Tucson, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Greenhorn Creek's Fireside Room in Angels Camp.

Donations can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice of the Sierra, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.

McGEE — Ana M. McGee, 95, of Tuolumne died this morning at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

ROBINSON — Visitation for Charles Robinson, 77, of Sonora, who died yesterday at a Sonora hospital, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
