Jay D. Martin

Jay D. Martin, a longtime resident of Sonora, died Thursday at a Sonora hospital. He was 86.
He was born in Weatherford, Okla., and moved to California in 1937.
He lived in Sonora for 44 years and worked for the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department for 19 years as an animal control officer.
He received two purple hearts while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Martin, who loved going to Kennedy Meadows, was a member of Sonora Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tuolumne County Sheriff's Posse and Tuolumne County Trail Riders. He was a constable in Pinecrest for two years and a sheriff's deputy for many years.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian Martin of Sonora; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Roberta Martin of Escalon and Ronald and Margo Martin of Redlands; three daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta Davidson of Oakdale, Maudine Dick of Turlock, and Anita and Jon Sturgill of Sonora; a sister, Juanita Moon of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Victoria Lynn Johnston of Angels Camp died May 6 in Jackson from a terminal illness. She was 44.
She lived in Angels Camp for 15 years and was a bookkeeper for many years.
She is survived by her son, Kelly Hartman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Ben Meyers of Arnold and Calvin Meyers of Novato; a sister, Cindy Smith of San Jose; her mother, Carol Meyers of Montana; her father, Benjamin Meyers of San Jose; and a grandchild.
Services were Saturday in Santa Clara. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
ZELAZNY Harry Delbert Zelazny, 56, of Copperopolis, died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
MITCHELL A memorial service for Joe Mitchell is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Sierra Bible Church. A reception will follow. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
