Lawrence Ross Stewart

May 23, 1911 — May 1, 2003

Lawrence (Larry) Ross Stewart died May 1 in Merced. He was 91.

Mr. Stewart, born in Vancouver, B.C., was the ninth and last child born to Abigail Bertha and Donald Campbell Stewart. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Morse code operator. He and his wife, Helen, and daughter Penny moved to Los Angeles in 1945, along with three of his brothers, Campbell, Maynard and Baden Powell.

The three brothers ran two grocery stores, one in the popular Farmers Market at Third Street and Fairfax Avenue, while Mr. Stewart worked as a production manager for Interpace ceramic tile and dinnerware in Glendale.

He and Helen relocated to Twain Harte in 1977 so they could enjoy the seasons in the Sierra. Mr. Stewart continued his freelance work until his late 80s. He was a 40-year sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Bringing immeasurable help to the program, he was also a friend to many in the AA community.

Mr. Stewart is survived by two daughters, Penny Otwell of El Portal and Pamela Gibbons of Tonasket, Wash.; two grandchildren, Pasha Stewart of Sand Point, Idaho, and Lundy Otwell of Oakland; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

His wife, Helen, preceded him in death in August 1989.

A cremation was scheduled. A memorial service is scheduled for noon Saturday, June 14, at the Alano AA Club, 19421 Village Drive, Sonora. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the Alano Club. The Neptune Society is handling arrangements.

Ronald Ciro

Rinauro

Nov. 21, 1939 — May 14, 2003

Ronald Ciro Rinauro, a longtime resident of Vallecito, died Wednesday at a San Andreas hospital. He was 63.

He was born in San Jose and was a 24-year resident of Vallecito. He was a retired mechanic and past owner of the Murphys Tool and Equipment Rental, Murphys. An avid fisherman, he served in the National Guard as a police officer and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Rinauro is survived by his wife, Jackie Rinauro of Vallecito; two daughters, Julie Rinauro of Vallecito, and Dawn Jacobs of Washington; a son, Christopher Rinauro of Murphys; and two grandsons.

A public funeral service was held yesterday at the Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Dr. Eldon E. Scott

May 21, 1923 — May 4, 2003

Dr. Eldon E. Scott of Cathedral City died May 4 in Palm Springs. He was 79.

He was born in San Pedro to Goldie and Earl Scott. He married Peggy Taylor on July 4, 1960.

After 32 years in private practice in dentistry, he worked for the state of California, Department of Corrections, in Jamestown for 15 years, and was a chief dentist. He practiced dentistry for 55 years. He moved to the Southern California desert to be near his beach house in Baja after retirement.

He was a member of the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy; children; a brother, Gerald Scott of Woodland; and grandchildren.

A remembrance and celebration of life was held May 9 at the Palm Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, and burial followed at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City. Palm Springs Mortuary is handling arrangements.
