Gary Lee Pfeiffer

Jamestown resident Gary Pfeiffer died May 1 at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Pfeiffer was born in Idlewild to Burgess and Winifred Pfeiffer.
He worked as a sales representative for numerous products, including wood-framed windows, for nearly 50 years.
He lived in the Sonora area for about 40 years. He lived in Jamestown for the past year.
Mr. Pfeiffer was a member of Chapel in the Pines, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Life Bible College, and founded Benefit for Humanity, a charitable organization hosting concerts to benefit the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, and American Red Cross.
Mr. Pfeiffer was a published songwriter and poet. He enjoyed classic car shows, and nature.
Mr. Pfeiffer was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Pfeiffer, in January.
He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Josh and Tara Pfeiffer, of Copperopolis, Justin and Keely Pfeiffer, of Sonora, Jake and Sara Pfeiffer, of Columbia, Mo., Joseph Pfeiffer and fiancee Mikhaila Galowitz, of Sonora; daughter and son-in-law, Bethany and Mark Meadors, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; foster daughter and her husband, Heidi and Barak Morton, of Angels Camp; siblings and their spouses, Gary and Jill Fanati, of Costa Mesa, Greg Pfeiffer, of Tuolumne, Tom and Donna Higgins, of Redding, Kenn and Joanie Gulliksen, of Costa Mesa, David Pfeiffer, of Hamilton, Mont., and Kathy and Gary Egger, of Tuolumne; mother-in-law, Janice Higgins, of Sonora; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Chapel in the Pines, 18580 Cherokee Dr., Twain Harte.

Melvin David Reitz
Aug. 6, 1916 — May 5, 2013
Lifelong Sonora resident Melvin David Reitz died May 5 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. He was 96.
Mr. Reitz was born in Sonora to Frederic Melvin Reitz and Gladys Vilora (Dambacher) Reitz.
He served in the U.S. Army, 96th Division, 321st Medical Battalion Deadeyes, in World War II. Mr. Reitz was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action during the battle of Okinawa Island. He also fought in the battle of Leyte Island and earned the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Reitz worked as a custodian at Columbia Elementary School for 25 years.
He enjoyed fishing trips with friends to the numerous streams and lakes along the Sonora Pass highway.
Mr. Reitz was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Barbara Reitz, in 1979; his parents; and all his siblings.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Valerie and Michael Stocks, of Angels Camp, and Russell and Lynn Reitz, of Camarillo; and grandchildren, Connor and Devry Reitz, of Camarillo.
A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sonora Elks Lodge, 100 Elk Drive.

Doris (Haeberle) Rott
July 30, 1931 — May 9, 2013
Sonora resident Doris (Haeberle) Rott died May 9 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 81.
Mrs. Rott was born in Glendale, N.Y., to Jacob and Louise Haeberle.
She worked as an elementary school secretary in Manhattan for 17 years.
She retired with her husband, Harry Rott, to Sonora from the Bay Area in 1991.
Mrs. Rott was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the 49ers. She enjoyed travelling and camping.
Mrs. Rott was preceded in death by her twin brother, John Haeberle; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harry Rott, of Sonora; son, Paul Rott, of Hayward; brother, Robert Haeberle, of Milford, N.J.; sister, Henrietta Schmidt, of Frisco, Texas; and grandson, Bradley Rott, of Oakley.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of the 49ers, 11155 Jackson St., Columbia.
