Former longtime Tuolumne resident Morris "Mike" Geiger died April 26 at a Rice Lake, Wis., medical center. He was 87.
He was born in Parshall, N.D., to Peter and Ellen Geiger. He graduated from Barronett High School in Wisconsin in 1935. He joined the U.S. Army and earned the rank of sergeant during World War II. He served with General Patton's battalion and at the Battle of Normandy and received four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and many other medals.
He married Florence Dickson in May of 1948 in Hayward, Calif., and owned and operated Geiger Motors in Barronett for 15 years. The couple moved to Tuolumne in 1964 where he was a logger for a few years.
He also helped build the Cherry Dam project, worked for Anderson and Lehman in Sonora, and was a mechanic for Summerville High School from 1973-83.
He retired to Rice Lake in 1990.
His family said he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Geiger is survived by his sons, Robert, Michael and Scott all of Rice Lake, and Jeff of California; daughters, Susan Rodriguez of California and Theresa Geiger of Rice Lake; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard of Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, in 1985; a son, Jimmy in 1953; and his daughters, Kathy Babbitt in 1999 and an infant daughter, Mary in 1954.
Services were held in Wisconsin.

SULLIVAN Elwanda Sullivan, 83, of Groveland died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
WATKINS Ruth Watkins, 82, of Sonora died Thursday at a San Francisco medical center. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. tomorrow at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Sonora. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
