Charles Everett ‘Chuck' Wiest

July 5, 1951 — March 4, 2003

Charles Everett "Chuck" Wiest, 51, of Twain Harte died Tuesday at his home, after an unexpected illness.

A native of Sonora, Mr. Wiest was a lifelong resident of Tuolumne County. He had been a real estate agent for many years and worked as a bartender at night at Ed's Cocktail Lounge in Twain Harte. He worked as a compliance officer for Tribal Gaming Commission for four years.

A 1968 graduate of Summerville High School and a member of the Sonora Moose Lodge, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends, and was building his own houseboat at the time of his death.

Mr. Wiest is survived by his mother, Virginia Wiest, of Twain Harte; a brother, Fred Wiest, of Washington; an uncle who was like a brother and was raised with him, Tom Parker, of Missouri; an aunt, Louise Hays, of Sugar Pine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Wiest.

No service will be held at his request. Cremation is to take place. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Stoddard Small

March 2, 1910 — Feb. 26, 2003

Stoddard Small, 92, a former resident of San Andreas, died Sunday in a hospital in La Crescenta, Los Angeles County.

Mr. Small was born in Berwyn, Ill., and grew up in Illinois. He had lived in La Crescenta for the past four years and had lived in San Andreas from 1980 to 1990.

He earned a business degree from the University of Chicago and spent many years working as a salesman for Moline Iron Works, Moline, Ill., and later, Neenah Foundry Company in Wisconsin. He had retired to Michigan and later relocated in San Andreas.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

The former Mountain Family Service Agency, now Human Resources of Calaveras County, awarded Mr. Small its Shining Star Award for his volunteerism when he lived in San Andreas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janet Small, in 1993.

Mr. Small is survived by three sons and two daughters, John Small of Bennett, Colo., George Small of Chapel Hill, N.C., Robert Small of New York, Susan Metzger of San Andreas and Holly Small of Glendale; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No service is planned. Inurnment is to be at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, Ill.


DONOHUE — Mildred Donohue, 75, of Sonora died yesterday at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

VILLALBA — Maria Villalba, 75, of Soulsbyville died yesterday at a Modesto hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

DRUMMOND — Helen Drummond, 89, of Groveland died yesterday at a Modesto hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

KAHL — Dorothy Kahl, 73, of Chinese Camp died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
