Richard “Dick” Kent Webster Thompson

Tuolumne resident Richard Thompson died Feb. 10 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 76 years old.
Mr. Thompson born in Yreka, Siskiyou County, to Richard E. Thompson and
Unetta J. (Small) Thompson, the youngest of three children. He moved to Southern California in the early 1950s and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1954.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Thompson married Joleen Nugent in 1961. They moved with their three children to Tuolumne in 1978.
He participated in many community theater performances and several locally filmed television shows and movies. He also played Santa for many years in Tuolumne County and throughout Northern California. Mr. Thompson returned to school in his late 50s and earned an associate’s degree from Columbia College in 1997.
He was a devoted Christian.
He enjoyed people, animals, nature, music, dancing, writing, fishing, wood cutting, gold panning, photography, horseback riding, lapidary and bowling. Mr. Thompson was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Thompson; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Joleen Thompson, of Tuolumne; son and
daughter-in-law, John Thompson and Kim Cotten, of Riverside; daughter and son-in-law,
Amber and Eugene “Tom” McNinch Jr., of Roseville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Wanda Robertson, of Lucerne Valley, and Unetta “Dickie” and John Moore, of Denver, Colo.
A celebration of life with casual dress will be held 2 p.m. March 23 at The Journey Church, 14425 Mono Way, Sonora.

Sonora resident Larry Proulx died Feb. 19 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 65.
Mr. Proulx was born in Minnesota to Robert and Lorraine Proulx. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam. After his service, he moved to Sacramento, where he attended California State University, Sacramento.
He worked in pharmaceutical sales for 28 years in Northern California.
Mr. Proulx lived in Healdsburg for 15 years before moving to Sonora less than one year ago.
He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Humane Society.
Mr. Proulx enjoyed flying and refurbishing airplanes, and volunteering at the Humane Society.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Donna Proulx, of Sonora; two aunts; a cousin; two nieces; and one nephew.
Private services will be held.

KIRILUK — A memorial service for Sarah Kiriluk, 73, of Valley Springs, who died Feb. 6 at Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sonora Moose Lodge, 20921 Longeway Road, near Soulsbyville. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
NICHOLLS — Wendell Nicholls, 91, of Jamestown, died Friday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
