Longtime Sonora resident Phyllis Schmidt, age 88, died Feb. 20, at Sonora Regional Medical Center.
Phyllis was born on Oct. 4,1925, in Chelsea, Mass., to Esther Mae (Gregory) and Warren Madison Robertson.
She graduated from Wakefield High School and attended Mount Ida Junior College, where she graduated with honors. She then trained as a medical lab technician for a year before being married on Sept. 7, 1946, to Robert Schmidt in Wakefield, Mass.
A year later they moved to Redwood City, Calif., and later to Woodside, Calif., where they spent many wonderful years bringing up their children. In 1971 they retired to Sonora in the Phoenix Lake area until they built a home a few years later in Cedar Ridge.
Phyllis married her second husband, Bill Gravatt, in 2002. They lived on Elizabeth Lane and then moved to Mill Villa Estates Mobile Home Park in Jamestown.
She was active in the Cedar Ridge Firemen’s Auxiliary Support Group, and as a devoted Christian was active in many churches, especially Sierra Bible Church. She loved nature, animals and the outdoors. One of her favorite places was Yosemite National Park. She loved to travel with her husband, Bill, and together had many wonderful years traveling all over the West in their RV.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Schmidt; and older brother, Warren Robertson.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Gravatt; her younger sister, Janet Shellenberger; her three sons, Bob Schmidt, Warren Schmidt, and Tim Schmidt; seven grandchildren, Amara Hecht, Danielle Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, Timmy Schmidt, Treavor Schmidt, Tiffany Schmidt and Michael Schmidt; and three great-grandchildren, Blaine Holderman, Kailey Schmidt and Marie Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held in her memory at the Journey Church in Sonora, 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9. Donations can be made in her name to the Interfaith organization that she loved.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church, 13151 West 28th Ave., Golden, Colo. Rose Cremations Society in Denver is handling the arrangements.
GARRISON — Oliver Garrison, 90, of Angels Camp, died Feb. 25 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to noon today at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in Lodi. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Cherokee Memorial Park Evergreen Chapel. Cherokee Memorial Park and Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
MARTINEZ — Betty Martinez, age unavailable, of Tuolumne, died Tuesday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
PAYNE — Marilyn S. Payne, 89, of Confidence, died Feb. 18 at her home. A private family service has been held. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
PEOPLES — Keith L. Peoples, 62, of Angels Camp, died Saturday at his home. No services are planned. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
