Richard Alan Davis

Nov. 9, 1939 — Feb. 26, 2013

Twain Harte resident Richard Alan Davis died Feb. 26 at his home. He was 73.

Mr. Davis was born in San Jose to Roy and Gladys Davis. He was married in 1958, and he and his wife, Sally Davis, moved to Strawberry in 1975. They lived in a cabin her family built in the 1950s.

The couple opened Rich and Sal’s Sport Shop in Pinecrest in 1975.

He enjoyed golfing, skiing, fishing and was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally Davis, of Twain Harte; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Davis, of Pinecrest, and Mark and Shauna Davis, of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Mike Souza, of Pinecrest; grandchildren, Courtney and Ryan West, of Sugar Pine, Taylor Souza and Dustin Perkins, of San Luis Obispo, and Ryan Davis, of Tucson; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Villa D’Oro Restaurant, 23036 Joaquin Gully Road, Twain Harte.

Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Charles Albert
Discoe Jr.

Sept. 9, 1917 — Feb. 20, 2013

Murphys resident Charles Discoe died Feb. 20 at his home. He was 95.

Mr. Discoe was born in Nebraska to Charles Albert Sr. and Pearl Mae Discoe.  

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Discoe worked as a general contractor for more than 45 years in Scotts Valley. He retired to Murphys in 2003.

Mr. Discoe became a Master Mason in 1954 and was recognized for 50 years of service in 2004. He served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley and of the Garden Club of Felton. He enjoyed flying as a private pilot, art and painting, singing in choir, and traveling. He was a dedicated church parishioner.

Mr. Discoe was preceded in death by wife of 53 years, Barbara Discoe.

He is survived by wife, Helen Ormsby, of Murphys; children, Paul Discoe, of San Francisco, Michael Discoe, of Hurst, Texas, Sheila Wertman, of Murphys, and Mark Discoe, of Scotts Valley; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life with reception will be held at 1 p.m. March 23 at the First Congregational Church, Church and Algiers streets, Murphys.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Donations in his memory can be made to a charity of choice or the First Congregational Church of Murphys, P.O. Box 48, Murphys, CA 95247.

Paul Eric ‘Rick’ Perkins

Feb. 16, 1967 — Feb. 23, 2013

Mi-Wuk Village resident Paul Eric “Rick” Perkins died Feb. 23 of a sudden illness at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He was 46.

Mr. Perkins was born in Vallejo to Sandra Smith and Paul Q. Perkins.

He worked as a ready-mix driver for Cemex in Modesto for 19 years.

He enjoyed all sports and was a fan of the San Jose Sharks, Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco Giants. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and raced stock cars. He also enjoyed mountain bike riding. 

Mr. Perkins was also a poet and songwriter.

Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife of 19 years, Michelle Perkins, of Mi-Wuk Village; daughter, Haley Perkins, of Mi-Wuk Village; siblings, Lisa Falconer, of Modesto, Rhea Spanglo, of Oklahoma, and Donnie Smith, of Ceres; and his parents, Sandra Smith, of Modesto, and Paul Q. Perkins, of Antioch.

Services have been held.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 


CORNISH — Catherine Elizabeth Cornish, 38, of Angels Camp, died Thursday at Stanford Medical Center. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

NICHOLLS — Wendall Nicholls, 91, of Jamestown, died Friday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
