Edward Neri

Oct. 18, 1980 – March 24, 2004

Longtime Tuolumne resident Keith Edward Neri died unexpectedly Wednesday in Oakdale. He was 23.

He was born in Sonora and had lived in Tuolumne most of his life. He graduated from Summerville Elementary School and from Summerville High School in 1998. He graduated from Modesto Junior College and was planning to graduate this spring from California State University, Monterey Bay, with a bachelor's degree in business.

His family said he enjoyed fishing, old cars, golfing, sports and spending time with his friends. He also enjoyed music, his family added.

Mr. Neri is survived by his father, Ed Neri of Tuolumne; his mother, Claudia Kelley of Ashland, Ore.; stepmother, Jane Morrill of Truckee, Nevada County; grandparents, Katherine Neri of Sonora, Charlene Barnes of Redding and Beverly and Robert Heaton of Atascadero, San Luis Obispo County; a sister, Monica Neri, and her boyfriend, Sharmin Ball, of Milpitas; a stepsister, Kalyn Wayne of Truckee; a half-brother, Gabriel Kirkland of Ashland; aunts and uncles, Jim and Alice Neri of Don Pedro, Ron and Ruth Neri of Tuolumne, Bill and Linda Neri of Oakdale, Joe and Delinda Hernandes of Modesto, Cindy Mayers of Sonora, Kathy Gill of Stockton, Sandra Downs of Crescent City, Del Norte County, Patty Aslakson of Grants Pass, Ore., Bill Barnes of Saratoga, Brenda Trapasso of Shingletown, Shasta County, and Mike and Sharon Walker of Modesto; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Emilio Neri and the Rev. Mel Barnes; and a stepsister, Tausha Crespin.

A funeral service was to be held today at the Tuolumne United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Carters Cemetery. Pallbearers are Joey Hernandes, Ronnie, Bill, Jimmi, Jim, Jason and Sean Neri and Robert Smith.

Mary Rose

Hendrickson

Dec. 31, 1932 – March 25, 2004

Longtime Jamestown resident Mary Rose Hendrickson died Thursday at her home. She was 71.

She was born in East St. Louis, Ill., and lived in Jamestown for 20 years. She was a homemaker and worked as a retail clerk and greeter at Wal-Mart in Sonora. She served as a cook in the U.S. Air Force. She served as a past president of Rebekah Sierra Lodge.

Her family said she enjoyed country western line dancing. She collected mechanical stuffed animals, her family added.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Balt of Sonora and Robert and Sharon Fritsche of Anaheim; a stepson, Don Moore of Jamestown; a daughter, Renee Parlier of Bellflower, Los Angeles County; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Lloyd Cole of Garden Grove, Orange County; grandchildren, Todd and Edward Fritsche of Anaheim, Sarah Parlier of Bellflower and Tina Moore of Irvine; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burt Hendrickson, in 1985.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Paul John

Cavagnaro

Oct. 20, 1967 – March 26, 2004

Paul John Cavagnaro of Valley Springs died Friday at a Modesto hospital from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Valley Springs on March 20. He was 36.

He was born in Jackson and lived in Valley Springs for 12 years. He worked as a fork lift operator for All State Packers. He was a member of the Jamestown chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG).

Mr. Cavagnaro is survived by his sons, Zachary Cavagnaro Jackson of Valley Springs and Justin Cavagnaro of Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa County; a brother, Tony Cavagnaro of Sonoma; and his parents, Raymond and Rosemarie Cavagnaro of Ione.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. today at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in San Andreas. A rosary will be held after visitation at the church. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the church.

Robert West Dunn

Oct. 3, 1932 – March 9, 2004

Robert West Dunn of Jamestown died March 9 at a Sonora hospital. He was 71.

He was born and raised in Lafayette, Md., and later came to Jamestown. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-59. After the service, he drove a truck for Seminole Asphalt for 40 years.

Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife, Nettie Dunn of Jamestown; daughters, Jane Smyser of Morgan Hill, Tammy Richardson and Norene Dunn, both of Florida, and Angela West of Iowa; sons, Bobby Dunn of Florida, Michael Magno of San Leandro and John Magno of Oakland; a brother, Donald Dunn of Virginia; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.

Betty Page Lester

March 1, 1931 – March 26, 2004

Betty Page Lester of Copperopolis died Friday at a Sonora hospital. She was 73.

She was born in Washington, D.C., and lived in Copperopolis for one year. She previously lived in Newark, Alameda County, and was a retired switchboard operator.

She is survived by her daughters, Shawn Lester and Susan Sowisdrzal, both of Copperopolis; a son, Robert Steven Lester of Dayton, Nev.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Lester in 1989.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon tomorrow at Lake Tulloch Bible Church in Copperopolis.

Irene V. Martinez

Dec. 27, 1929 – March 13, 2004

Former Standard resident Irene V. Martinez died March 13 at a Davis care home. She was 74.

She was born in El Paso, Texas, and grew up in Standard. She had lived in Davis for 32 years.

Her family said she loved to sing, do arts and crafts and play games.

She is survived by her son, Joe Martinez Jr. of Jamestown; a daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Sonny Baros of South San Francisco; grandchildren, Leonard P. Baros Jr. of Hayward, Bettina Lyall of Millbrae, San Mateo County, Bernadette Pacheco of Las Vegas, Armando Baros of Daly City and Deshawn Baros of South San Francisco; great-grandchildren, Richard and Athena Chock of Millbrae, Alysia Baros of Gustine, Merced County, and Anthony Baros and Jason and Tatiana Pacheco, all of Las Vegas; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Joe Martinez.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sonora.

Betty J. Njirich

Aug. 7, 1920 – March 26, 2004

Former longtime Sonora area resident Betty J. Njirich died Friday at a Libby, Mont., hospital. She was 83.

She was born in Martinez, Contra Costa County, to Frank and Naomi (Rogers) Yauney. She was a longtime resident of the Sonora area and worked for many years as a licensed vocational nurse at Columbia Way Hospital and Sonora Community Hospital, now Sonora Regional Medical Center. She moved to Libby, Mont., seven years ago, after her husband's death.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Paulette Njirich of Libby, Mont., and Earl Eubanks of Saratoga, Santa Clara County; a sister, Beverly Ives of Sonora; grandchildren, Lisa Robertson, Terry Ruiz and David Montgomery; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in October 1996.

Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sonora.

Clifton L. Wood

Nov. 24, 1917 – March 21, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Clifton L. Wood died Sunday, March 21, at a Sonora care home. He was 86.

He was born in Oakdale and lived in Sonora for 24 years. He was a teamster and worked as a truck driver for 40 years.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine Wood; a son, George Perry of Pacific Grove; a daughter, Ethel Craig of Sebastopol; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Bayer, Ginny Lay and Meda Long; and his brothers, Lloyd and William Wood.

At his request, no services are planned.
