Elma Rosa (Rovetta) Autry
July 23, 1942 — March 14, 2012
Longtime Sonora resident Elma Rosa (Rovetta) Autry died March 14 at her home. She was 69.
Ms. Autry was born in Redwood City and graduated from Sequoia High School. She worked as a banking merchant teller for 36 years and retired from Bank of America in Sonora after 30 years. She lived in Sonora for 30 years and was known as “Mama Rosa” and “Nonni.”
She enjoyed traveling in the United States, reading and gardening. She also enjoyed wine tasting and college football, and was a Notre Dame fan. Ms. Autry enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Grand Tetons, Glacier National Park and the Sierra Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicola and Teresa Rovetta.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina Autry, of Murphys, and Cyndi Autry Kirk, of Newark; her partner of 22 years, Paul Miranda, of Sonora; brothers, Reno and Fiore Rovetta, of Redwood City; and grandchildren Emily and Erica Kirk, of Newark, and Sarah and Avery Schultz, of Murphys; and numerous friends including Nita Blaich, of Roseville.
A donation in her name can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370.
A celebration of life will be held in early May.

John ‘Jack’ Ervin
Dec. 17, 1926 — March 10, 2012
John “Jack” Ervin died Monday at the Soulsbyville home where he lived for 25 years. He was 85.
He was born in San Jose, the son of John and Lottie Ervin, and was a retired telephone technician. Mr. Ervin served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa in 1945 and 1946. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners. His hobbies included doing puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ervin was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ervin, on June 15, 2006.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene Ervin, of Soulsbyville; three children, Kathy Hibbard, of Punta Banda, Baja, Linda Benson, of Cayucos in San Luis Obispo County, and Susan Albuquerque, of Soulsbyville; seven grandchildren, Marrissa Montoya, of Mexico, Erick Benson, of Soulsbyville, Amber Benson, of Florida, James Benson, of Cayucos, Johnny Benson, of Santa Fe, Jason Albuquerque, of Sonora, and Jocelyn Weaver, of Sonora; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Ervin, of Sonora.
No services are planned, but an open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 31 at the family home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
