Arnold resident Jimmie Rex Chambers died March 4 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. He was 73.
Mr. Chambers was born in Higgins, Texas.
He was an employee at Pacific Gas & Electric Company for 36 years and once received a “Good Samaritan” award from PG&E for saving a parachutist’s life at a golf course.
Mr. Chambers was a former member of the Rotary Club and enjoyed golfing, mechanics, and walking around his neighborhood.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly and Nick Cole, of Antioch, Kelli and Doug Merrin, of Douglas Flat, and Tessa Hartshorn, of Bakersfield; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chapel in the Pines, 2286 Cedar Lane, Arnold.

Gail Van Houten

Gail Arlene (Wyatt) Van Houten, of Sonora, died Feb. 12 in Sonora. She was 59.
Mrs. Van Houten was born in Alameda to Pauline Mode. She was raised in Sonora, moved away, and moved back to Sonora about 15 years ago. She worked at the Gunn House hotel in Sonora and at Black Oak Casino in Tuolumne.
According to family members, she was dedicated to her Alcoholics Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics programs.
Mrs. Van Houten was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Adams.
She is survived by her son, Robby Manners, of Riverside; sisters, Susie Picard, of Sonora, Cathy Potter, of Tuolumne; brothers, Don Wyatt, of Washington, and Ricky Wyatt, of Blyth; and a granddaughter.
She was also survived by her mother until her death three days later on Feb. 15.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Alano Club, 19421 Village Drive, East Sonora.

Annette Francine (Giroux) Pedri, formerly of Sonora, died March 7 in Lincoln. She was 58.
Mrs. Pedri was born in Sacramento to Clayton and Dorthea Giroux. She grew up in the Arden Park area and attended Rio Americano High School, American River College, and California State University, Sacramento.
She worked as a clerk and analyst for the California Water and Air Resources Control Boards in Sacramento and then as a licensed preschool teacher at Roseville Presbyterian Church.
She married John Pedri in 1982 in what was then Peaceful Valley Church in East Sonora, and lived in Sonora for several years.
She enjoyed attending church, Bible studies, picnics, trips to the coast and train trips across America. She assisted her children in cheerleading, dancing, gymnastics, football and other sports.
Mrs. Pedri was preceded in death by her mother; and siblings, Joseph Giroux, Tim Giroux and Paua Giroux.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Pedri, of Lincoln; her children and a daughter-in-law, Matthew and Kirsten Pedri, of Sacramento, and DeAnna Pedri and Hannah Pedri, both of Lincoln; her father, Clayton Giroux, of Sacramento; brothers, Don Giroux, of Santa Rosa, Ed Giroux, of Coloma, Tom Giroux, of Sparks, Nev., and Steve Giroux, of Vacaville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Granite Springs Church, 1170 E. Joiner Parkway, Lincoln.
