Daniel Baroth Crapo

April 19, 1932 — March 10, 2004

Daniel Baroth Crapo of Tuolumne died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital. He was 71.

He was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He served in the Korean War. He married Janice E. Murray in 1956 and moved to California in 1958. He bought a home in Newark, Alameda County, in 1960, where they lived for 30 years. He retired from the Retail Clerks Union after 25 years.

He moved to Tuolumne in 1987, and his last year was spent in Sonora Community Hospital's Unit No. 7. He loved all of his caretakers and loved to tease them, his family said. The last of his years were memorable and the Sonora Community Hospital Unit No. 7 was his family away from home, his family added.

His family said he loved to cook, fish, use his metal detector, read Westerns and Gold Rush books, and he loved home projects.

Mr. Crapo is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan Crapo of Tuolumne; his children, Cheri A. McMahan of Newark, Danette E. Crapo of Jamestown and Daniel C. Crapo of Tuolumne; grandchildren Richard Daniel and Jason Bradley McMahan, both of Newark; a brother in Ohio; and a sister in Florida.

No services are scheduled.
