Bobette ‘Bobbie’ Morgan Overholtzer

June 24, 1922 — March 8, 2013

East Sonora resident Bobette Overholtzer died March 8 at Meadowview Manor in East Sonora. She was 91.

Mrs. Overholtzer was born in Dayton, Ohio, the only child of Anna and David Morgan. She moved with her family to Whittier in 1928 and lived there until marrying Lloyd Overholtzer in 1940.

The couple moved to Modesto and started a church in their home in the 1950s that later became North Modesto Church of God, now on Sherwood Avenue.

They moved to Sonora in 1964 and started Sonora Church of God with Vernon and Gloria Banks at the Tuolumne Glass and Paint store, before the church moved to Peaceful Valley Road and was renamed Peaceful Valley Church of God.

Mrs. Overholtzer did clerical work for her husband’s business, Tuolumne Glass and Paint, and Midstate Equipment Rental. The couple bought the Mono Village Shopping Center and also founded Central California Bank in the 1990s. The bank was later purchased by Umpqua Bank.

She enjoyed stenciling, sewing, cake decorating, knitting, and ceramic and china painting for family and friends. She hosted a china painting class at her home once a week and seminars several times a year.

Mrs. Overholtzer was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lloyd Overholtzer, in 2002; her parents; and a son, Stuart Overholtzer, in 1973.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Linda Overholtzer, of Dayton, Nev., Paul and Barbara Overholtzer, of Sonora, and Dennis and Laurie Overholtzer, of Sonora; a daughter, Sandra Overholtzer, of Sonora; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 East Rose St., Sonora, and a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson.
