Judith Carol

Crawford

March 6, 1945 — March 5, 2004

Judith Carol Crawford of West Point died unexpectedly Friday at her home. She was 58.

She was born in Vallejo and had lived in West Point for 17 years. She worked as a teaching assistant.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Crawford of West Point; sons, Jeremy Crawford of Rodeo, Contra Costa County, Brian Crawford of Roseville and Michael Crawford of El Cerrito, Contra Costa County; a brother, Curtis Hambrick of Texas; and her mother, Ruth Hambrick of Stockton.

No services are scheduled.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Rose Verna

Castlebury

June 10, 1922 — March 8, 2004

Rose Verna Castlebury of Sonora died Monday at a Sonora care home. She was 81.

She was born and raised in Pasadena and had lived in Sonora since 1991. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pasadena and was a princess on the queen's float in the Rose Parade. She worked as a switchboard operator for nine years and later moved to Sacramento in 1971, where she lived for 20 years.

Her family said she enjoyed painting, loved music and sang in the church choir. She was a seamstress and was a docent at Columbia State Park, her family added.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Hubert M. Castlebury of Sonora; a son, Robert Castlebury of Sonora; grandchildren, Robert Eric Castlebury of Sonora and Julie Ann Cantu of Norwalk, Los Angeles County; and longtime friends, Trudi and Don Brenon of Sonora.

A family graveside service is scheduled at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Almon Knittle

June 22, 1937 — March 7, 2004

Terry Almon Knittle of Murphys died Sunday at his home. He was 66.

He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and had lived in Murphys for 10 years. He previously worked as an insurance broker.

Mr. Knittle is survived by his wife, Janice Knittle of Murphys; a son, David Knittle of Mission Viejo, Orange County; a daughter, Debby Pyle of Westlake, Ohio; a sister, Susan Kincaid of Ohio; his mother, Ruth Knittle of Carlsbad, San Diego County; and five grandchildren.

No services are scheduled at his request.

Anthony Sims

Dec. 4, 1955 — March 6, 2004

Former Valley Springs resident Michael Anthony Sims died Saturday at a French Camp, San Joaquin County, hospital of natural causes. He was 48.

He was born in French Camp and grew up in the Linden area. He graduated from Linden High School. He lived in Valley Springs from 1994-97 and later settled in French Camp.

His family said he enjoyed working on and racing motorcycles.

Mr. Sims is survived by his mother, Lue Sims of Valley Springs; a brother, Bryan Sims of Angels Camp; and grandparents, Laura and Jay Frazier of Stockton.

Visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. today at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at the chapel. Burial will follow at the Jenny Lind Cemetery.

Vera Fern Tilkus

Feb. 16, 1909 — March 6, 2004

Longtime San Andreas resident Vera Fern Tilkus died Saturday at a Jackson hospital. She was 95.

She was born in Missouri and had lived in San Andreas for 33 years. She worked as a driver and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in San Andreas.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in San Andreas.
