Alva Mari Romero Personius
May 22, 1931 — Feb. 26, 2012           

    Sonora resident Alva Mari Romero Personius died Feb. 26 at her home following a brief illness. She was 80.
    Mrs. Personius was born in National City, San Diego County, to Eladio Julian Romero and Guadalupe Romero Santos Coy. Mrs. Personius was one of 13 children. A graduate of Sweetwater High School in San Diego, Mrs. Personius also attended San Diego State University.
    She was married to Donald Alfred Personius for nearly 60 years and she was a mother to six children and grandmother to 28 and great-grandmother to 15.
    Mrs. Personius was a long-time resident of Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes in Southern California, and enjoyed living in her Sonora home for seven years.
    She enjoyed all that California has to offer and traveled throughout the state hiking, skiing, attending sporting events, and swimming in the ocean. She ran as a candidate for State Assembly, and regularly attended Peninsula Community Church in Palos Verdes and Calvary Chapel in Sonora.
    According to her family, Mrs. Personius encouraged others to pursue big goals and to make a difference in their communities, her family said.
    Mrs. Personius was preceded in death by her brother, Ruben Romero; sisters, Luz Romero, Gloria Delani and Angie Christianson; and her grandson, Daniel Personius.
    Mrs. Personius is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Donald Personius; her children and their spouses, Cheryl Lyn Davis and James Davis, Timothy and Jennifer Personius, Edward and Karen Personius, Mikkal Personius, Matthew and JulieAnn Personius, and Karina and Geno Cotrone; 27 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Chapel in Sonora.
    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


Allen Ray ‘Al’ Sharon
Oct. 20, 1945 — Feb. 24, 2012

    Longtime Sonora resident Allen Ray “Al” Sharon died Feb. 24 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 66.
    Mr. Sharon was born in Dayton, Ky., and lived in Sonora for 35 years. He worked as a master machinist and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
    Mr. Sharon was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He also enjoyed gunsmithing and watching sports on television.
    He also served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and received numerous medals including the Purple Heart.
    Mr. Sharon was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Annamae Sharon.
    Mr. Sharon is survived by his brother, Gene Sharon, of Twain Harte.
    A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose Ave., Sonora.
    Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
