Dorothy Dutch

March 26, 1925 — June 3, 2003

Dorothy Dutch of Sonora died Tuesday at her residence. She was 78.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. After meeting her husband during World War II, they married and moved to Maine. She was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest children reached junior high. She then went to work for the Daily Review newspaper for six years before leaving on medical retirement after having a heart attack.

In 1960, she moved with her husband and family from Maine to California and settled in San Lorenzo. She lived there until moving to Sonora in 1995.

Her family said she was active in her children's lives. She was a Girl Scout leader, catechism teacher, baby sitter and friend. She loved to sew and do crafts, her family said, a passion she passed on to her children. She also had a passion for making other people's lives better, her family said, and devoting countless hours, resources and energy to making clothing for the poor.

After a long illness and various hospital stays, she was taken care of by her children and the Hospice of the Sierra.

She is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Muriel Dutch and Louise and John Skokan, all of Sonora, and Lorraine and Leo Basurto of Dublin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Terri Dutch of Roswell, Ga., and Steven and Shawn Dutch of Greenbay, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Paul Dutch, Brian Villaflor, Christopher Dutch, Michael Dutch, Brendon Dutch, Michelle Carter, Eric Basurto, Eddie Dutch-Storey, Andrew, Matthew and Taylor Skokan; two great-grand children, Anthony and Cierra Villaflor; three brothers, Larry Mundy of Sebastapol, Jim Mundy of Litchfield, Ariz., and Dan Mundy of New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Dutch, less than two months ago, and by a daughter, Dee Dutch.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at All Saints Catholic Church, 18674 Cherokee Drive, Twain Harte. A reception will be held after the service.

The family requests that those attending wear bright colors.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Lifelong Tuolumne resident Charles "Charlie" Colbert died Tuesday at his residence. He was 46.

Mr. Colbert, a member of the Paiute and Me-Wuk tribes, was born in Sonora and lived in Tuolumne all his life. His family said he was a true Indian warrior and was loyal to his native ways.

He worked as a hot shot firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years, a job he loved, his family said.

His family said everyone who knew him considered him family. They said, too, that he was very likable.

Mr. Colbert is survived by a daughter, Shanta Colbert-Campos of Tuolumne; three brothers, Richard Colbert of San Diego, Eddy Colbert of El Cajon, and David Colbert of Oakdale; a sister, Elena Colbert of El Cajon; and two grandchildren, Miguel Campos of Oakley and Marianna Elizarraraz of Tuolumne.

Original times for the visitation have been changed. A visitation is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. today at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home's Tuolumne Chapel, 18411 Bay Ave., Tuolumne. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the chapel. Burial will be held at Carter's Cemetery.
