Ronald Pyle

July 20, 1936 – June 24, 2004

Longtime Angels Camp resident Ronald Pyle died Thursday at a Stockton hospital. He was 67.

He was born in San Francisco and had lived in Angels Camp for 50 years. He worked as a carpenter for many years. Before retiring, he worked for 17 years as director of operations at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Pyle is survived by his wife, Angie Pyle of Angels Camp; sons, Ronald Pyle of Manteca and Mike Pyle of Stockton; a stepson, Scott Graham of Modesto; daughters, Rhonda Ya-cobucci of Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, and Michelle Niemantsverdriet of Lodi; a stepdaughter, Shelly Flores of Mexico City; brothers, Grant S. Pyle III of Citrus Heights and Douglas Willmon of Orangevale; a sister, Valerie Young of Vallecito; and 10 grandchildren.

Services were to be held today.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA 95204-3405.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Lamar Smith

Feb. 18, 1924 – June 26, 2004

Lifelong foothills resident Kenneth Lamar Smith died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. He was 80.

He was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Angels Camp. He lived in Angels Camp until 1968, then moved to Sonora. He worked for Caltrans for more than 39 years and retired as a supervisor. He was a member of the Sonora Elks Lodge No. 1587 and served as a chairman on its board of trustees. He also was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Angels Gun Club and the Mother Lode Rollers, the Elks RV Club.

His family said his priorities were his family, faith, traveling, golf and playing cards with his friends.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne in the South Pacific Theater.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Smith of Sonora; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debbie Smith and Marty Smith and his partner, Lisa, all of Sonora; grandchildren, Greg and Katie Smith, both of Sonora; and numerous nieces and nephews including Roy and Gloria Volpetti of Sonora.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Isabelle Gualdoni and Eleanor Dulvick.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Donations can be made to Elks National Foundation, 100 Elk Drive, Sonora, CA 95370 or any favorite charity.
