Samuel William Sells Sr.

Sept. 17, 1926 — June 18, 2003

Samuel William Sells Sr. of Sonora died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital. He was 76.

He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and lived in Sonora for 15 years.

He worked as an X-ray technician repairing the machines for 25 years, and was a paratrooper in the Army.

He enjoyed water-skiing, golf and boating. He had a fondness of aviation and was a kind, loving person, his family said.

Mr. Sells is survived by his wife of 10 years, Beverly Sells of Columbia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam Sells II and Peggy Sells of Sugar Pine, and Scott and Cheryl Sells of Lynnwood, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Donna Sells of Sonora; five grandchildren, Jaykob and Ryan Sells of Brier, Wash., Sadie and Kyle Sells of Lynnwood, Wash., and Trish Bozeman of Kirkland, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great -nieces and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; his brother, Jim Sells, and sister Katherine Bunting.

No services are scheduled.

Ruth Kathleen Coleman

June 26, 1917 — June 19, 2003

Ruth Kathleen Coleman of Sonora died Thursday at her residence. She was 85.

She was born in Milwaukee and had lived in Sonora since 1988.

She worked as a real estate agent for 10 years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Wisconsin and loved traveling. Her family said she had traveled all over the world. She followed Dr. Robert Schuler Ministries.

She was an avid reader, especially novels, and enjoyed gardening, her family said. She was a loving person to all who knew her, her family added. She raised two granddaughters, Debra and Coleen.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband, Herb Coleman of Sonora; a son, Randy Ullrich of Wis.; four brothers, Bob Norman of Ariz., Jack Norman of Ala., and Larry and Bill Norman of Wis.; four grandchildren, Debra Holdmann of Michigan, and Coleen Vulelic and Kevin and Sea Ullrich, all of Wisconsin; and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Jack Kosach

June 3, 1922 — June 4, 2003

Robert Jack Kosach of Twain Harte died Wednesday, June 4, at a Sonora hospital. He was 81.

He was born in his family's home in Oakland and made the "All City Football" team while attending Technical High School. His family said he thought about playing professional football before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he received a certificate of aviation metalsmith, second class. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After the war, he briefly attended the University of California, Berkeley, before pursuing his own business, Claremont Sheet Metal. He married Dorothy Pestingate, whom he had known since childhood, in 1952, before moving to Piedmont to begin a family.

While there, he served as president of St. George Church and was a member of the Serbian Benevolent Society in Northern California for more than 50 years.

He retired in 1980 and moved to the summer home he built in Twain Harte. While there, he was active in his community, serving as president of Tuolumne County Water District No. 1 and as assistant coach for the Summerville High School junior varsity football team in 1986-87.

He was a member in good standing in the local Masonic Lodge No. 8. He was a 33rd-degree. He was a member of the lodge for more than 50 years.

He was a wonderful father, his family said. He was an avid golfer, loved to drive and knew every back road in Central California and the Sierra Nevada, his family added.

Mr. Kosach is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Kosach-Breeden of Sacramento and Kristy Kosach of San Francisco; his son-in-law, Sean Breeden, and future son-in-law, Alex Wellen; his sister-in-law, Sophie Kosach of Lafayette; three nephews, Steven R. Kosach of Reno, Nev., Thomas G. Kosach of Pleasant Hill and Larry Lovett of Monte Rio; and many great-nephews, great-nieces and friends.

At his request, there will be no services. Friends are asked to celebrate his life in the manner of their choosing.

Val A. Isaman

July 21, 1937 — June 17, 2003

Val Arthur Isaman died Tuesday at a Sonora hospital after a short illness. He was 65.

Mr. Isaman was a native of Valyermo, Los Angeles County, and lived in Sonora since 1960. He was a millwright for 35 years and had worked at Pickering Lumber Co.'s plywood plant.

He enjoyed fishing, television, guns and was a fan of the Oakland Raiders football team.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons, Thomas and Todd, both of Shaws Flat; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda, of Shaws Flat; a daughter, Terri, of Shaws Flat; his mother, Eunice Isaman of Hydro, Okla.; two brothers, Bob of Ceres and Kelly of Hughson; a sister, Janie Isaman Biehl of Hughson; and three grandchildren, Rachel, Shelby and T.J., all of Shaws Flat.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew, and by a brother, Dex.

A private service will be held at Jamestown City Cemetery.

SUNDBORG — Norman Douglas Sundborg, 87, of Sonora died Saturday at his residence. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

PALASKI — Richard Palaski, 65, of Walnut Creek died Saturday from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident in Groveland. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

REYNOLDS — Stephen James Reynolds, 45, of Twain Harte died unexpectedly Friday in Twain Harte. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
