Dennis George DeCant
May 15, 1951 — June 16, 2012
Groveland resident Dennis George DeCant died June 16 at a veterans hospital in Palo Alto. He was 61.
Mr. DeCant was born in Toledo, Ohio, and lived at Pine Mountain Lake for 11 years. He retired from computer management.
Mr. DeCant was an altar boy and an Eagle Scout. He moved to Sacramento when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1970, where he was a radio and radar mechanic. He opened a ping-pong hall and pursued his education. He moved to San Jose and worked in computer management. He was a baseball coach and known as “Coach D.”
After moving to Pine Mountain Lake, he got involved in basketball coaching. He also worked in a recycling program to take boys to basketball camp. He enjoyed playing tennis, collecting firewood, four-wheeling, traveling, fishing and playing Santa Claus.
Mr. DeCant is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cynthia Ann DeCant, of Pine Mountain Lake; parents, Norman DeCant, of Citrus Heights, and Lois Lind, of Fair Oaks; his son, Steven DeCant, of Sacramento; siblings Norman DeCant, of Citrus Heights, Kathleen Rounds, of Carmichael, Larry DeCant, of Citrus Heights, David DeCant, of Fair Oaks, Julie McIntyre, of Fair Oaks, Dan’l DeCant, of Collinsville, Ala., and Corey DeCant, of Saratoga; and 18 nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Big Oak Flat with a reception to follow at Pine Mountain Lake.

Norman ‘Jack’ Graham
Sept. 9, 1928 — June 17, 2012
Sonora resident Norman “Jack” Graham died June 17 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Graham was born in Columbus, Kan., and worked as a sales manager in marketing for 29 years. He lived in Sonora for 22 years. He was a member of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Community Service Unit.
He is survived by his wife, Lilian Graham, of Sonora; and sons, Allen Graham, of Ecuador, and David Graham, of Cold Springs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Columbia Presbyterian Church.

Joseph ‘Alex’ Quiñones
Dec. 26, 1928 — May 24, 2012
San Andreas native and resident Joseph “Alex” Quiñones died May 24 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. He was 83.
Mr. Quiñones was born to Mexican immigrants, Luciano and Angelita Quiñones. He spent his childhood living in a camp on Pool Station Road when his father took a job with Calaveras Cement Co. in the 1930s. The family lived there for 10 years, moving when Joe was 13 years old to Cement City, a small community outside San Andreas.
He attended Calaveras High School and participated in basketball, football, baseball and track.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948, and served with the 191st Field Artillery Battalion at Camp Roberts in Central California. He served three years in the Korean War with the Second Infantry Division.
He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, walking and animals.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Quiñones Osumi, and son, Donald Sanders; brothers, Raul Quiñones and Manuel Quiñones; sisters, Consuelo Quiñones and Eva Angelina Quiñones; grandchildren, Rebecca Osumi, Keiko Osumi, Amika Osumi, Christa Osumi, Dawn Sanders and Aaron Sanders; and many family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 162 Church Hill Road, San Andreas.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 2600, 156 W. St. Charles St., San Andreas.

CARPENTER — Maria Carpenter, 86, of Tuolumne, died Tuesday at her home. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tuolumne. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
ELMORE — Former Groveland resident Mildred Marie Elmore, 86, died June 16 at her home in Modesto. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakewood Funeral Home, who are handling arrangements.
HOMAN — Sydney Homan, 62, of Sonora, died Saturday at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
RAMSEY — Patricia (Kelly) Ramsey, 70, of Sonora, died June 17 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
